They Don't Need An Orchestra To Play Beethoven
Beethoven's 5th Symphony is a powerful, incredibly complicated, piece of music. Traditionally the symphony features piccolo, flutes, oboes, clarinets, bassoons, trumpets, trombones, timpani and strings, in different tunings and configurations. Of course we here at Wimp aren't big on tradition, so today we bring you a version with considerably fewer instruments. Just three harmonicas to be exact.
Obviously the harmonicas played here, by the Portuguese harmonica group the Mendes Harmónica Trio, are a little more advanced than the ones you probably played with as a kid. These are professional harmonica players after all, they need professional equipment. Still it's always a joy to see someone take an instrument you might only know from genres like rock or blues and use it craft such a beautiful interpretation of this classical masterpiece. Enjoy.
