I almost believed the story about his friend, until he started with all the flatline and "clear" nonsense, that was taken straight from television and not from real life.
I guess it is ok, since the goal of the competition is a good performance, but it devalued the whole thing for me.

It was well presented generally and I do understand the purpose of the speech was to win a competition. The straight A story was better presented in a song

A son was born just the other day
came in the world in the usual way
but there were planes to catch, bills to pay
he learned to walk while I was away
he was talking before I knew it
and when he spoke he said
I wanna be like you Dad
you know I wanna be like you

And the cats in the cradle and the silver spoon
little boy blue and the man in the moon
when you coming home Dad, I don't know when
We'll get together then son,
you know we'll have a good time then

My Son turned ten just the other day
he said thanks for the ball dad come on lets play
will you teach me to throw, I said not today
I got things to do, he said that's okay
He turned away but his smile never dimed it said
Gonna be like you Dad, You know I'm gonna be like you.

Well he came from collage just the other day
so much like a man I just had to say
Son I'm proud of you, can you sit for a while
he shook his head and he said with a smile
What I'd really like Dad is to borrow the car keys
See you later, can I have them please

I've long since retired, my Son moved away
I called him up just the other day
I said I'd like to see you, if you don't mind
he said I'd love to Dad, if I could find the time
You see my new jobs a hassle & the kids have the flu
But it's been nice talking to you Dad, Been sure nice Talking with you

And as I hung up the phone it occurred to me, my Son was just like me, he'd grown up just like me.

And the cats in the cradle...........

#4 Me too :) #5 Ugly Kid Joe was a cover it was written & recorded by Harry Chapin in 1974. The best version though in my opinion was by Ricky Skaggs watch https://youtu.be/fDe4jPhl5ac (by the way if the link won't open just type in Ricky Skaggs-cats in the cradle) It's the video version you are looking for it starts with a baby crying and looks a bit grainy. Make sure you have a handkerchief handy. This version will confirm whether you are human or not. If it doesn't get you then maybe you should check your dna and start knocking down my temple before Christmas :squirrel:
