When I was young, and my mother had a cottage up north, we used to have many raccoon open up an old Coca Cola freezer that was left by the former owner, where we stored a lot of our perishables. So, after putting a huge boulder on it every night, they finally gave up.
But one raccoon with distinguishable markings used to visit every night around dinnertime, and hang around our porch. He used to look in through our windows while we ate, and go up on his hind legs, tapping on the glass.
We were all major animal lovers in our family, but we also knew about diseases and dangers, so, even though it broke our hearts, we had to stop ourselves from feeding him (once you feed one, they come in droves).
Finally, one day, we caved. After my begging, we decided to feed it the scraps from our dinner. We got a place setting for him, a plate, and even a napkin, and let him feast.
It became a regular thing. Even the neighbours came by and watched (he was very shy at first, but soon, with the porch light on and nobody around, it became a Broadway show for him).
The cottage wasn't winter-proofed, so we weren't there when things were frozen over, but the next year, he was there again - ready and willing for more of the same.
By mid-summer of that next year, we were able to get close to him without him running away. He felt comfortable with us (we weren't there all the time, so relationships were hard to establish). It got to the point where after a spaghetti meal, we made a plate for him, put some garlic bread on the side, he came up to us and sniffed our hands, we put a baby's bib on him, he walked over and started eating without any qualms! We actually took pictures and have neighbours to verify, but alas, I don't have those, and, I know, "No pictures, it didn't happen".
Anyway, we never saw him the year after. There's a lot of hunting in the area, and generally, people don't like them.
That's my story. If you reply with TL;DR, you're just a rude ass-hat looking for attention.
