I think that we lose some of the memory information by not accessing it. For example, a 25yo will be able to remember most of his life, but an older person, which has a bigger number of memories, he can't access them all daily and eventually the brain stops using the synapses that hold those memories and thus degrade the capacity of the brain.

#2 actually many studies have conclusively shown, that gaming does not improve your mental and cognitive abilities. They make you better at the task presented in the games, but that does not translate to real life scenarios. You can utilize memorizing techniques and practice them in games and get able to memorize larger and larger numbers, sets of names or other lists. But that wont help you remember the color of the shirt of a person you've met yesterday for example. The mind exercizing-industry in general is complete BS.
