Yeah #6, but #5 is right..it does make a huge difference, I mean I changed all my Christmas lights to LEDs too, but actually not because of the cost, but because of lower maintenance, but still iIt will bust your bank when you buy them, because they are so much more expensive, but they also last so much longer...

#6 Well..as far as i know..the guy is an electrician..so maybe he gets the batch quite cheaper. And those lights arent 1 time use..he will reuse them on xmas..new year..maybe easter bunny time (dunno the english term..if there is one)..i bought cheap xmas lights (not LED..the mini lightbulb) and used them 5 years in a row.
My guess (since he build it on his own) is that the material didnt cost over 5000$..and assuming that the LED stripes dont fail as fast as old mini bulbs (and dont make the whole chain fail when 1 LED fails)..its not so expensive in propotion to the end result.
If you let a company decorate your house and a programmer do the setup..well then you would be over 15k per event maybe. But that to me (since we got another halloween vid of him [video nr1 on snotr] and xmas vids) looks like a one time invest for material, one time work to setup hooks on the house, and you can redecorate and reprogram the audrino, rasp pi, banana pi whatever to every occasion as long as you are creative.
Next year he just may replace a few LED bands wich cost next to nothing today.
And "Bust your bank"..well..there are people with average jobs that only use 50% (more or less) of their month income..after a year of saving you can make many of your average dreams come true.

#8...which just reminds me of the first snotr video I EVER watched...forced by my kids against my will (they knew what was good for me ).. so many years ago....that did not get me hooked on snotr yet though until 2 years later( 2009)...the rest is history..
