Understanding Wolves

Video by Alex Clarke
Filmed at Runs with Wolves Sanctuary, Limington, ME
Original: https://vimeo.com/111860418

The main purpose of this film is to educate people not to be afraid of wolves. Occasionally, I'll tell people that I interact with wolves, and some immediately become frightened or scared of the idea, because they were taught to fear the wolf. Movies from Hollywood such as The Grey, create false ideas and negative images about wolves. The takeaway should be Wolves are not vicious, but instead shy and cautious. As evident in the film, I had two wolves standing over me at one point as well as jumping on me as they were greeting me after my long absence from the sanctuary (The previous time I saw them was several months before) and I never felt I was in any danger. I did not fear them but instead embraced them to interact with me. It truly is amazing to interact with these marvelous creatures.

I love it when videos like this change my understanding of something. Thanks!

Although I'd still be scared if I found myself surrounded by wolves in a forest. But then the same could be said for dogs. After watching this video I'm thinking dogs would be far more likely to attack.

#2 Dogs are far more influenced by humans. That may be a clue to their occasionally violent behaviour. If a dog is vicious, I still trust it more than its owner.

Yes, it used to happen, wolfs attacking humans, not even 100 years ago... they still attack sheep "farms" to this day. Nowadays there aren't so many around, I've never seen wolves though I traveled mountains high and low (and seen many brown bears)

#4 Or putting my previous comment in a Chris Rock format. If you are standing at a cashpoint at two in the morning and it's really dark it's not the wolves you have to worry about it's the werewolves >:)

Leave the damn wolves alone and put them back into the wild. The solves in this sanctuary don't represent the wild since they are around humans and are feed. Wolfs will take down sheep and calves since there is not some sick or injured animal they can feed on available. In fact if a injured moose was available along with a healthy sheep or calf, what would the pack go after? It won't be the moose.
