The musical road
This road in Lancaster, California, makes music when you drive on it. It's designed to control the driver's speed. See also the Japanese version.

It WAS REAL. They had to dig it up because locals complained over the noise of the lone ranger. Its purpose was to incourage people to drive at 55 mph to hear the tune, thus reducing their speed. It was clever and it worked. It was on Sky news or BBC news last night, can't remember which.
