Harnessing the power of nuclear fusion really is the holy grail of energy generation. The best thing is: there is no reason to believe it cannot be done during my lifetime.

#4 The technology puts hard working oil rig drillers out of their jobs and denies plants the extra CO2 they so desperately yearn for. Also, the first experimental reactor was stationed in Russia, so it is basically a communist technology. How's that for a start?

Using the energy to create electricity for electrolysis of water. creating hydrogen for the fusion. but there is one problem, the water is gone forever. Or we have to raid some of Jupiters moons.
#5 Oil rigs then can pump and destile seawater into sweet water and pump it to the reactor

#5..I know you are a scientist by trade, I respect that and I know I don't have much of a leg to stand on..but in my opinion there should still be enough CO2 for the plants...wasn't there enough before we had oil rigs? There are other jobs available I'm sure...I mean we can't really compromise the environment to create/maintain jobs, because that seems counterproductive...and last but not least, if it is good technology, who cares if it is communist? I don't...okay, time for strike down and down votes..

This is what is known as a Tokamak style fusion reactor, but at the same time we have the first runs for the Wendelstein 7-X in Germany, a Stellarator: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wendelstein_7-X
The design is mindbending https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-fbBRAxJNk

#8 of course I wasn't beeing serious there. But this really resembles the absurd reasoning patterns of some people.

#10 That's what I thought, but wasn't totally sure...sometimes I miss the sarcasm in writing..

#4 Fossil fuel burning is bad. They can deny is all they want, they can't change data.
But solar energy is way cleaner than fusion energy and that is what we should aim at harnessing effectively.
In my PoV, fusion as a replacement to fossil fuels is not really progress. It's like getting burned by playing with a flamethrower and deciding to switch to matches instead.

#13 If people want to be stupid idiots, just let them and ignore them. If nobody gave any attention to morons that say the Earth is flat or that the Holocaust didn't happen they would just go away and play with their toys. The problem is people give them air time and put them in The Sun newspaper for the uneducated to read. If you read the Times like me and possibly not Foxy Bingo you won't find reference to these idiots, because it's not worth the ink on online space if you are in Magaluf.

#14 And now Judge the number of idiots are increasing. 2020 with woke movements, Black looters matter, PC crap...I stopped watching TV for that reason...The solution is simple, but most idiots just want to scream and claim victimhood....sorry for the rant...I am getting off social media because of toxic idiots...
glad we got this space to chill...
