Origins of the Harrier - GR1, the Air Race and the AV-8A
Following on from "Landing a plane vertically on an aircraft carrier" . here's a short history of the Harrier Jump Jet...sadly we practically gave it away to the Americans :-/

The thing I find quite funny is when telling people that the Harrier actually landed in New York...and seeing the disbelieving looks on their faces! When I was younger I had loads of models and literature about the Harrier, mainly because I had an older cousin who flew in one :-) I also had an Uncle who worked on the Vulcan bomber...and had a Christmas card from him one year, a photo of him standing in the front of one of the air intakes to the engine. Two awesome and iconic aircraft, both of which played roles in the Falklands campaign.
