Close call

This is an Ilyushin IL76 freight aircraft taking off fully laden for an 11 hour flight, warm day, no wind... oh and look, no runway left either!
Warning: foul language.

the voice is not 'British' it is either australian or New Zealand! I guess from the way it is put, it is a yank who posted the comment, well dear heart, you lot cannot knock the British for their flying skills, remind me, who is it that shoots their own side and allies from the air?

Maybe I'm crazy but maybe just maybe the pilot waited so long to take off because his big heavy plane could not gain enough air speed for take off. Look at me I am a controller I know everything I could make the plane go faster lol. Get a bigger runway you cheap ba****ds. If he had tried to take off earlier he probably would have stalled and crashed, I think the pilots decision was right, he is the pilot after all and if anybody knows best how to fly the plane its him. #3 you need to get out more and meet some people, #2 you are right to defend your country, but #6 is still correct, American pilots do seem to cause quite a substantial amount of friendly fire incidents, perhaps it is a lack of training or the ability to question dubious orders.

Oh and in the title its says no wind. More head wind would have meant more lift and shorter take off, it doesn't make the pilot look worst, it actually explains the reason for it.

This is Australian commentary, from a couple of Aussie priests by the sound of it. I don't think the plane would have made it if they hadn't called upon old JC to give it a helping hand.. ;)

This is an old video that's been around for a long time. And comments by you ignorant non pilots are pretty stale as well.
(It's all in the preflight; gross weight, runway length, density altitude and wind speed and direction.) if the wind changes, it makes the runway shorter. All of us at some time have stayed planted until the numbers roll under the nosewheel and rotated over the approach lights. Gotta have that airspeed.

I bet there were two sweating, pale gentlemen in the cockpit :D

@#6,#8: #(removed comment) is right you know. The US does more fighting than any other country, so it's kind of predictable that most of the mistakes also happen to them.

Heheh, this US-Euro-Aussie comment war is quiet amusing :D
That pilot did a nice job of taking off on such a short runway with a heavy load, I think.
He seemed to know what he was doing.
