My favourite lighthouse story was of the Smalls lighthouse off the Pembrokeshire coast, Wales. In 1801 two lighthouse men Thomas Howell and Thomas Griffith were manning the lighthouse and had to wait for several weeks for the return ship to take them off, partly due to bad weather. The pair were known to argue a lot and following a freak accident Griffith died, Scared that he would be accused of murder Howell made a makeshift coffin and strapped it to the outside of the lighthouse. Soon a storm smashed open the coffin and the ropes got tangled on the corpse causing it's arm to swing in the wind in a gesturing motion as it slowly decayed. When Howell was eventually rescued he had virtually been driven insane by hunger and the situation. Since that day and before automation it became policy that three lighthouse men would always be stationed on a lighthouse. JJ from the land of free speech North Korea signing out

The host is Neil Oliver, a very popular documentary presenter. I watch almost everything he narrates.
