for food = fine
for sport = mentally sick
But this is just my humble opinion.

Did you know that in some places there are so many deers and so few predators that the government will pay you if you kill one.
In France some times a year there are hunts organized in order to limit the species propagation else they will be attacking people in the periods of reproduction, be found in garden, eating the trash, etc.

We dont want the predators in our woods, so e killed them, now the deer overpopulate and keep running over streets cause nearby woods are overcrowded.

Some problems have no easy answer...

#1#2 Yep pretty much agree with both of you.

This reminds me of my favourite Woody Allen joke/story.

"I shot a moose once, strapped him onto the fender of my car and headed home, but what I didn't realise was that the bullet didn't penetrate the moose, it merely creased his scalp knocking him unconscious. And I'm driving back through the Holland tunnel and the moose woke up, the moose is signalling for a turn you know. And there's a law in New York state about driving with a live moose on your fender Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. So I'm very panicky don't know what to do, then it hits me! Some friends of mine are having a surprise costume party, I'll go, ditch him at the party it wouldn't be my responsibility.
So I drive to my friends house, I ring the bell, the moose is beside me, I say Hello you know the Solomon's. The moose mingled, did very well, scored. Some guy tried to sell him insurance for an hour and a half. Midnight comes and they hold a competition for the best costume of the night. First prize goes to the Berkawitze's a married couple dressed as a moose, the moose comes in second, the moose is furious, he and the Berkawitze's lock antlers in the living room, they charge and knock each other unconscious. I thought this is my chance I grab the moose, strap him onto the fender of my car and head back to the forest ...BUT I got the Berkawitzes and there is a law in New York state about driving with an unconscious Jewish couple on your fender Tuesdays, Thursdays and especially Saturdays. Next morning the Berkawitze's wake up in the forest in a Moose suit. Mr Berkawitze is shot stuffed and mounted by the New York Rifle club, but the joke is on them because it's restricted". :squirrel::squirrel: The amount of nonsense I carry around in my head is just ridiculous 8-)

When the power goes out and the store shelves are empty, I'll still be eating. Good luck to the rest of you.

#3 Did you know that there are far more humans than deer in the world?
Picture of Scotsman5045 achievements

#6 Yes but the power is on and the shelves are full !! Bast*rds killing animals for what they call sport. If they want to shoot things put them on the front line in the Military and see how they feel when the target can actually shoot back and kill them. I was born and brought up on Farms and know the need to kill when killing is needed but if an Animal has a life who the hell do you think you are that you can just indiscriminately take it away? Vote me down all you want but those so called Hunters should be thrown into a woods without a weapon and people should go hunt them and see how they feel if by some miracle they survive. And NO i am not a Veggie or anything like it , I like my Meat but it is bought out a supermarket and humanely reared and killed not just wounded to die in agony in some Forrest.

#7: and that's why humans hunted the carnivorous animals from the forests and now herbivorous species are proliferating like crazy, threatening themselves with mass contagion, bad health due to overpopulation. In some places like the Alpes Mountains, wolves and bears have been reintroduced in order to limit the the explosion of a species.
Where I lived as a child a deer once came in the school and began hurting children because he was in his reproduction cycle and was gathering some new territories. He ended hurting himself by passing through a window and died bleeding out.
Sadly in most places of France (and western europe), the only predator left for those species is the human.

#9 that is why there should be organised kills not just any joe soap going out shooting anything he/she wants whenever they want. I understand the over population of some species need controlled but just indiscriminate hunting and shooting anything you come across i am dead against.

where is the "thrill", "challenge" to shoot a deer? i can understand there are reasons to shoot animals, like over population or enviremental hazards like foreign species, or just to eat them. but to sit in a tree with a high powered precision rifle and shoot any passing forest animals, is just cruell to me. specially when he shoots like sjit and the animal have to suffer longer for it. disgusting

#8 *Facepalm* "I like my Meat but it is bought out a supermarket and humanely reared and killed not just wounded to die in agony in some Forrest." My God! Did you really just say that? So a farmer penning up hundreds of animals and going out every day, killing and processing them so lazy people can conveniently purchase the meat at a store is more humane than the time and effort needed to scout out deer paths, set up a stand or hunting strategy, go out at the but crack of dawn in the cold and MAYBE being successful? You know, not every hunt is successful, but every days slaughter on the farm for your convenience is. And hunters will enlist help if necessary and search for days to find a wounded animal. But you won't search for more than 5 minutes for the right cut of meat at the store.

#13 I do not know where you stay however here in Scotland the animals are not penned in there hundreds and are well looked after as the RSPCA, DEFRA , SEPA and every other person is constantly monitoring there well being. Farmers do not kill them, they are transported in adequate transport to slaughterhouses which have more rules and regulations than a hospital has where they are humanely killed. Let me assure you i have worked since i was 9 years old ploughing fields and and joined the Military at 17 and have never claimed a day of unemployment in my life and at 59 still work 14 hour days then come home and take care of anything i need to before i get a seat so if i am a Lazy person because i eat this type of meat then you my dear sir must be a superhuman god as you are a Hunter. (yes that was meant to be sarcastic) Whichever way you want to hunt it still has the same outcome, some poor animal dies for your enjoyment. I have yet to meet a hunter who will spend more than 5 minutes looking for a wounded animal so your argument that you and your friends would look for days is inho a load of shite. Hunters are just a bunch of sadistic macho men who think carrying a gun actually gives them a large penis to compensate for the small one they have. As a little finishing note i do not spend 5 mins looking for a cut of meat as i use a local butcher who gets supplied from a local farm and i can choose my meat in 10 seconds and nothing is left wounded.

Deer hunting is a sport and it is also for meat. Additionally, it is a public service, culls the herd so the don't starve in the winter, saves crops by keeping the population down and one less deer running in front of a car.

I only accept hunting for survival.

I'm sorry, but if you have money to buy guns, ammo, hunting paraphernalia, licenses, etc, you have no need to "hunt for food".

You can't find wild hog or deer meat in the supermarket so if you have a taste for it then hunting is about the only way to get it. Lamb and beef just don't compare with the wild flavor of hunted meat.

#14 would you say 'hunters are just...." about primitive people who hunt? You've been too far removed from the reality of life.
