Let's not forget that there is a third possibility: that a primate made the sharp-edged flake. O:)

#5 Oh don't start that you'll have 40% of Americans who still believe that the world is only 10000 years old climbing onto taller pedestals. :|

Show me where that monkey learns to use the sharp edged cutting tool ( that he doesn't realize he made ), and I will be impressed. ;):(|)

The monkey is intentionally using the stone as a tool. Chimpanzees use wooden tools like spears and to get at ants so we probably can say that our common ancestor did so too.

Early humans probably made sharp-edged flakes for quite a while before realising they could be used to cut. It is about 2.6 millions years ago that bones with marks of butchering show up alongside flakes of stone. Used by hominids with relatively small brains.

This was during a period of climate change in Africa when habitats were altering. Overcoming our lack of tearing teeth and claws by making stone substitutes would have opened up new food opportunities. The first to use this innovation would have had a real advantage.

The monkey is using the rock as a crushing tool but when a sharp-edged piece happens to break-off does it see the sharp piece as anything other than just "my rock broke".

As many inventions, it will probably depend on an accident, as cutting himself while using it.

#12 Or getting a rock cut between the toes AAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!

#8 Surly not? That's a lot of fecking idiots. We've just had a prick in Northern Ireland who has today TODAY!! lost a court case because he runs a bakery in Northern Ireland. I won't give it's name but it's called ASHERS BAKING COMPANY 19A ROYAL AVE, BELFAST BT1 1FB Tel 028 9031 5957 www.ashersbaking.co.com Basically they refused to ice a cake with the words "Support Gay Marriage" on the top. Now I'm not Gay but this guy and his wife are so behind the times and have their religion so far up their own arses that they can't smell the roses. Wake up you fecking idiots!!

#13 so what. It's their business (whatever happened to I have the right to refuse service). Is there a shortage of F-ing bakers over there? If one guy doesn't want to bake you a cake, go to the next F-ing baker. People are such cry babies :'( today.

#14 I'm totally siding with #13 on this one, although I believe in religious freedom, or any other freedom for that matter, freedom of speech, freedom of sexual orientation, etc, but it does not belong in the business world, because that is discrimination...you are providing a service, be it food, construction, education, medical....today you don't provide that service for a gay couple, tomorrow you're not providing that service to a Jewish couple, a black couple or any other couple of your choosing, where does it stop?...Or how about a gay business not providing service for straight customers..see where I'm going with this? And the cry babies are the ones whining about not being able to provide that particular service for religious reasons! (And I'm not picking on you either, because I like ya! ;))

# 15 why does someone have the right to force you to make a cake for them? Can you for a certain house painter to paint your house? Can you force a priest to make a specific sermon?

#14 #16 It's discrimination guys. As Thunders so elegantly explained above. If you are a painter of a house and your only reason for refusing to paint your customers house is because he is Black that's discrimination. If you don't want to paint the house for reasons you don't explain that's a different matter but if you utter the words I'm not painting your house because you are black or Jewish or Chinese it's discrimination and many countries have laws to protect people against that happening. In the cake icing case if the bakery had simply said we aren't icing cakes this week as our books are full that would have been fine (providing they were not witnessed booking in other cakes and icing them) But they openly refused to ice the cake because it said 'Support gay marriage' and that is discrimination and the courts found them guilty, end of!!

#15, #17 I give a pass to people who have their convictions for certain things, it's not like they're refusing to sell you gas or a candy bar. It's a bit more personal when you're making something by hand of something you don't agree with, or another example, taking wedding photos. If I don't want to witness your wedding for whatever reason, that's my business not yours. Find someone else. Again, most of these things it's not like there's a huge shortage or it's life or death.

How about I refuse service because I feel like you'll be a PITA to work with?

BTW, how did we get here from a cute monkey banging on things with a rock?! :P

#18 Haha...yeah, really, how did we get there, you know how thoughts sometimes wander this path and suddenly you wonder why you are thinking of this and how you got there and how it's kinda fun and sometimes difficult, like a mental work-out, to reverse all the associations to the beginning again...well, here we can peak..:)

David Attenborough: And here we peer into the secret world of Capuchin monkeys while they unintentionally make iPhones. It appears the Chinese aren't going to be entirely thrilled about that,.
