The total length of the Great Wall of China ( built in different dynasties ) is 13,170.69 miles (21,196.18 kilometers).

This wall would be a 'mere' 1,954 miles long...and probably cost more than the US can afford in the first place, it would probably cost more than the ENTIRE space program.

Love the naysayers. You wouldn't accept people camping out in your yard or in your home at your expense, as a country, why should we?

If you have an influx of people (largely poor) unchecked that is harming your economy and costing you billions of dollars, then you must do something.

There's a reason you lock your doors and windows in your home, to generally keep people from looting or setting up camp. It's not 100% fail-safe (break a window or kick down the door) but it generally works pretty well for most of us.

Something has to be done, a wall every square foot MAY not be realistic but we have to do something. Generally the idea is to discourage blatant swarming of your border by not making it easy to A) cross over, or B) if you do, not to make it easy for you to set up a life. Some will still come, but the majority will stay in their own country.

Seeing the beauty from above makes it look absurd that there should be a wall!

Hearing all these comments it's as if we never built anything like that before. We've built plenty of things along the scale of a border wall over and through all kinds of terrain. A power grid with lines stretching hundreds of miles over mountains and valleys. Pipelines (water, oil and other) that run the length and width of our country. Roadways that cover the nation like a spider web. But you say a border wall is a laughable undertaking? I guess you don't know the history of the U.S.

Unless it is monitored, a wall will be useless in rural areas. In rural areas a double 16 foot fences with razor wire and sensors between them is a better but it will still need to be monitored. A better option monitoring mountain area by drone or balloons, more people on the ground, immediate return to Mexico when caught and a minimum of five years in a hard labor compound in the desert for both American and Mexican coyotajes
