Instant gratification vs hard work. I can choose to put on Morning Mood by Grieg at piano and it lasts for an hour at most if I'm lucky. Or like a year ago when I practised a month performing for an audience perfectly and it lasted for an entire day. Because I gave from myself and saw it affected people.

Being born in '87, that guy is bang on.

Also reminds me of this:

"Man, I see in fight club the strongest and smartest men who've ever lived.
I see all this potential, and I see squandering.
God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars.
Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy sh*t we don't need.
We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression.
Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives.
We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars.
But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact.
And we're very, very pi**ed off..."

I was thinking...yeah...i know!! But I wonder how many in that audience, after the talk was over, said to themselves I must tell 'so and so' about this...then sent them a text?

#8 But to do snotring is not the same as having hundreds of mindless chat or SMSs s on your cell phone with multiple people, at least we have some thoughtful conversations here, that require some thinking. :)

#5 The truth! :)

#7 Why would you tell so and so and then send them a text? Is this a short term memory so an so?

#10 Absolutely we do have some thoughtful conversation here don't we.

I was sitting at a table last night with among others two girls in their early twenties, cell phones on the table. Soon a conversation began about another girl who had removed one of them from a friendship group on twatter I think, feck me it went on and on and on and on and on and on about what to do about it apparently this girl had dissed 'fecking dissed I ask you' something that had been said by this other girl and she was BLOCKED 'fecking blocked I ask you' so she retaliated by the group removal. What was to be done OMFG LIFE IS TOO SHORT, IT's TOO SHORT. I left the table and did some suduku:x8-):squirrel:

#11 All my dear younger female co-workers (love them to death) constantly discuss who they blocked or unblocked or who they were blocked or unblocked by...Agree, what a waste of time :x8-):squirrel:

Thank you Geekster, now I have an thoughtful way on how to give advice my kids about social media.

This guy is FULL of it. Not all of us were poorly raised as children, are depressed and hate our jobs, can't form meaningful relationships etc. If you visit his website it's just loaded with junk he's trying to sell, and the product is himself and his 'course'. As a millennial I find this offensive.

#15 calm down. Life's never ALL, it's a generality and that means generally, NOT ALWAYS, it's true. We didn't pamper our kids and in some areas engaged in competition for the fun of competition and to try to be the best, but that doesn't mean they still don't have some of these characteristics and in some areas I do see it even though we tried to do better. Overall society as a whole failed these folks. The ones that did better, like your parents did, were the ones that generally buck the trends.

Most succinct point to me was the part about sitting without distraction and where that's often when things happen. Engagement. That definitely seems to be missing. It is really sad to see when people get together (and it's not always young people) most of them are on their phones.

The pendulum swings, eventually.

I'm not a millennial, just a bit older than that. I had a pretty hard life by any standard and yet I find his whole video kind of bullshity. It felt like a really sneaky way to advertise his business, attract young people under the pretense of understanding them while at the same finding excuses for them, shifty the fault to somebody else. Every one of us is, at the end, responsible for our own choices in life. And most of us are idealistic, even the most pragmatic of us. So saying that "life has dealt them a bad card" just because they grew up with their parents finding excuses for them just makes me laugh.
