Avatar-Style Manned Robot Takes First Steps In South Korea

The robot standing in a room on the outskirts of Seoul, South Korea stands four meters (13 feet) tall and weighs 1.5 tons. Its creators at the Hankook Mirae Technology, a robotics company in South Korea, claim it is the world's first. A pilot sitting inside the robot's torso made some limb movements, and the robot, Method-2, mimicked them with his metal arms, each weighing 130 kilograms (286 pounds). It is so huge that it is twice the size of a tall man, and when it takes a step, the ground shakes with a loud whirring of motors. How the robot will be used is unclear so far, but it is seen more as a test-bed for various technologies that will make it possible for the creators to build robots of any type and size in the future.

#2. Give it a 'backpack' full of emergency supplies ( first aid etc ) and you have the ideal 'vehicle' for disaster relief where there have been earthquakes etc...a truly mobile vehicle capable of lifting heavy masonry, other vehicles etc etc....forget all the war stuff...there's a lot of other uses this could be put to. How about a means of combating bad fires for example...the pilot could be sat in a self contained air conditioned 'cabin'.

#3 boring :)

agree with you but you can't change the world ..

well maybe you could if you could broadcast to everysingle person on earth and deliver your message, and of course they can't hear anything else while you speak.. maybe some speakers put on the buildings... don't know ...sounds kinda familiar ;)

no need to downvote me , reality is that the money is in the military not in healthcare so this will get it's application much faster if it's founded by military's secret funds

#10 Agree with you..and if it is in healthcare it goes to big corporate hospital CEOs and/or wealthy companies that provide state of the art diagnostics...the rest of hospital staff don't get raises anymore, and patients can't pay their outrageously expensive medications and medical bills. And I don't want to hear it's because of Obamacare, because it has always been that way...:|

It was a little short-sighted to use a test pilot without legs for this test, they had to drag him out for most of it. 8-)<3
