For those asking themselves (like me) what is a proof alcohol level. It's for some places in the US equal to half the degree of alcohol. So a 160 proof would be 80% alcohol. (thanks wikipedia ; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcohol_proof ).

Which is very nice if you want to lose you sight.

Because using a logical measurement just isn't the american style. And he forgot tons of 90+% alcohol brands...

#1 Thanks mwak to clarify that right away :) because as #2 says it's one of those random weird measurements that probably have a history going back to ancient times, but make no sense whatsoever in modern times, and are not used anywhere else but here. 8-)

#2 All those alcohols he mentions that were over 180 proof is 90+% alcohol.

#2 & #4 Alcohol by volume ( ABV ) IS the standard way of measurement in the US and if the proof is also on the label , by law , it must be near the ABV statement. The proof labeling in the US is mostly historical nowadays and dates back to 1848. The UK used proof up until 1980.
