I never thought of sand as a non-renewable resource, but there's only a limited supply: and to make things worse, it keeps getting washed into the sea. At Cape May, New Jersey, the US Army Corps of Engineers have just finished rebuilding a beach: here's why.

Question: The Romans 'apparently' used concrete...they ( as far as I know ) didn't have the technology to do the type of dredging for sand as in this where did they get the sand from?

#1 The Romans used volcanic ash,or "pit sand" ,in their mixture. It is actually more durable than most modern concrete.

When I was there a few years ago, the bunker (in the center at 00:10) was almost completely in the water
