Sailboat Capsized Into Redondo Pier

Spoiler alert!
This sailboat left King Harbor in extremely windy conditions and was unable to turn around and get back behind the breakwater. They ended up getting caught by a large wave and tossed into the pier. All four passengers made it to shore.

Good crab legs on this pier. And yes, very windy that day!

Novice sailors, clearly. You just can't go into the wind using just the foresail. In this kind of wind, you definitely need the mainsail ... or else exactly this happens. Physics, plain and simple.

It pains me some to see this poor sailing (and that violent end), but seeing that boat get destroyed hurts me a lot more. So avoidable.

By all means, please enjoy the wonder of sailing, but please put someone in charge that knows his way around the boat, especially in this weather. (Oh, the stories I could tell...)
