Cooking burgers may not be a human job for much longer if "Flippy" has its way.

Flippy is a cart-like contraption that comes with a six-axis robotic arm and a "sensor bar." Simply set-up Flippy next to a standard grill or fryer, and it will detect necessary data from a thermal sensor, 3D sensors, and various cameras to help it detect its surroundings. It can even take your food orders directly thanks to a system that sends a ticket from the cashier straight to the kitchen.

The factory of the future ( and now the restaurant of the future as well it seems ) will consist of two staff....the security guard and a dog, The guard will be there to make sure nobody steals the dog, the dog will be there to make the guard does not touch anything.

If liberals in the US get their way, and the $15 minimum wage becomes a reality, Flippy will be the next employee.

Idiot liberals are protesting their way out of a job.

Lucky kid no longer has to spend all day flipping burgers for a shit wage.
Now he can spend all day adding tomatoes, cheese and relish to buns for a shit wage. :)

#3 I was just going to say the same thing.
#4 Don't worry. I'm sure someone right now is working on the tomatoes, cheese and relish part. So soon he'll have no wage. Happy?

#5. I'd be happy to see all people, old and young, do meaningful and worthwhile work, and in this particular case, I agree that the arrival of a tomatoes, cheese and relish machine would put the kid out of a job. But I'd rather see him encouraged to do something better with his life, instead of being kept in a shit job, and that means getting out of the fast food joint altogether. The idiotic premise of this video that the boss is somehow doing the kid a big favour installing 'Flippy' is just hilarious.

By now they have a tomato and cheese placing machine and the kid, who was funding his tuition with this job, is now unemployed and had to put his education on hold for a semester.

#7 I heard that the kid was delighted when he got the sack, because he started his own dog walking business and is now making enough dough to put himself and his kid brother through college. :)

I can just see in about twenty years time when these things are everywhere and a few customers have been maimed by berserk flipper machines that have been fitted with the wrong fuse and someone will say "You know what, I bet we could train a person to do this" O:)

#4 all kids should work $hitty jobs when they're young. Working those $hitty jobs is great motivation to do something with your life.

#8 Then why didn't he just do that in the first place? None of your arguments make any sense. Who decides what's a meaningful job? You? Maybe that job fit perfectly into his life circumstances the way no other would, but you want to change that on him. The fact is that there will always be 'shit jobs' and there will always be someone to do them. Because what may be a 'shit job' to you may be just the ticket to someone else.

#12. "Then why didn't he just do that in the first place?"

Maybe getting fired from his shit job was the impetus he needed to get his act together.

You might be happy that there will always be shit jobs, and people to do them. I'm not. I think progress would be to reduce the number of shit jobs or eliminate them altogether. It's laughable that you pretend a shit job might just be the 'ticket' for someone. You don't happen to own a shit burger joint employing poor saps for shit pay, by any chance do you?
