Primitive Technology: Water powered hammer (Monjolo)
I built a water powered hammer called a “Monjolo”. I started by making a water spout from half a hollow log to direct water from the creek. This was set up in the creek and water flowed through it. The hammer was made from a fallen tree. I cut it to size by burning it at the points I wanted it cut (to save effort chopping). Next I carved a trough in one end to catch falling water. This was done first with a stone chisel that was then hafted to an L–shaped handle and used as an adze. This adze only took about an hour to make as I already had the chisel head and cordage made of bark fibre to bind it with.

#9 It was indeed, but I was watching my country tieing itself into yet another knot over politics. What a fecking mess we have woken up to to this morning!!!!!!!!!!
It could be worse though we could have your monkey in charge.

#10 if you'd had the right monkeys in charge, you wouldn't be having the mess you're having.

This is my video Geekster. Take it down. You're copyright app doesn't work. And stop stealing YouTubers videos, that's illegal.

#14 Keep looking in nothing's happening though.
#3 This isn't your video primtech we won it fare and square in a game of Russian roulette from the last girl who claimed she owned it. Now nick off back to youtube...
On the subject of new video's for Snotr is there no one else who is able to put them up Geekster? We all have great sympathy for you and your Mums health issue (probably apart from Mrs primtech) but if Snotr doesn't keep putting new video's up people will stop using it and it be finished. As I suggested before could you not simply put up a random selection of video's from a few years ago we get repeats anyway so no one would notice. I notice the classic video of the day still changes so can't you press the x5 button? JJ

#13 we are not stealing videos, we're actually promoting them. If you are indeed the creator of this video, then you can see that there is the contact info in the corner of the video. You can also see a link on the right hand side that takes you to the original youtube page.
Also, we're not making money of videos from youtube. The site barely makes enough money to cover server costs, thats all. The videos are wholly being submitted by users.
If you are the real owner of this video and want us to take it down, no problem, please write at geekster@snotr.com and prove that you are actually the owner.

To support what Geekster said, I discovered Primitive Technology videos through the videos posted here on Snotr and did suscribe to his You Tube channel shortly after. Just saying.

Going back to the video, I think the only use for this is to sell it to someone as a garden water feature. The guy could easily stand the other end, lift and drop the log, nothing like enough power and far too slow. Maybe if he could add another water supply going round in a loop so the water took longer to get there he could get it to fill up quicker and maybe attach some more weight to the hammer end. Then attach thin bamboo pipes to bowels under all the nut trees so that they fell straight down the pipes to the hammer bowl. Then he could indeed retire sit in his armchair and smoke his pipe while reading the morning paper.

Can't believe this is four years ago, wonder if it's still cracking nuts, or if the guy is in lockdown with Covid, like the rest of the fecking world.
