Some products, innovations etc fail not necessarily because they serve no function and no one, but because they didn't correspondent well with their time and society. A lame example is to create ice cream in Antarctica when it sells well in Sahara.

windows 8 was actually pretty good, from any point of view. its just that people dont like change, and couldnt get used to it. it was also blamed for so many things that weren't even true. people like to complain. end of story
