BUGATTI Chiron 0-400-0 km/h in 42 seconds

World record for the BUGATTI Chiron: the 1,500 PS super car has accelerated from a standing start to 400 km/h (249 mph) and braked back to a standstill in just 42 seconds (41.96). This is the fastest time ever reached and officially measured for this driving manoeuvre for a production vehicle throughout the world. The Chiron completed the manoeuvre in a distance of only 3.112 kilometres. This underscores the supercar’s unique position in the extreme performance range. The world record was set by Juan Pablo Montoya, winner of the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix, two-time winner of the Indy 500 and three-time winner of the 24 hours of Daytona. The 0-400-0 manoeuvre is the first step on the way to a new world speed record for production vehicles which Bugatti intends to set in 2018 and a further highlight in the success story of the Chiron.

The 0-400-0 manoeuvre is the first step on the way to a new world speed record for production vehicles

stupidity is overflowing how can this be speed record if top speed is 400?

@2 Actually, the top speed is limited to 420 km/h, but for the speed record attempt (which they did on the Veyron ss), they will probably remove the limiter. The top speed is expected to be around 463 km/h.

From a technical point of view, very impressive, though as a production vehicle on public roads, really quite useless. Even being on a road which would legally allow such speeds, few people have the skill to handle this kind of vehicle. On occasions when I was younger, I took my own car up to a slightly illegal 140mph on a UK motorway. It was a frightening experience. I am certainly not cut out to be a racing car driver.

#4 It depends on the car. From my personal experiences: Its really scary at 100 km/h in an old Lada; It starts to get scary in an old Honda Civic at around 160; It did not get scary until around 230 in VW Phaeton. This thing looks really wide and low, probably until 300 would be fine if the road is perfect. But i agree it's rather silly car. I guess only point is to show the owner has too much money and a small dick :P

#5 Yes you're right, it does depend on the car, and from what I've read about the Bugattis, they're designed and engineered to handle the power. Dropping a Bugatti engine into a Morris Mini (my first car) would certainly have been a bit hair raising. The car I was referring to previously was a Jag. That car was easily up for the task of hurling down the motorway at twice the speed limit. I was not. :D

#2 The world record is meant to be for the time taken to accelerate from 0 to 400 and back to 0 again. It is not for the top speed alone - this will be in the next video they will publish.

Anyone notice the car travelled 2 km (1.24 miles) in just 24 seconds!

#9 and it needs only 203m to get to 200kmh

and while driveng 360kmh you pass 100 meters every second 100meters!!

and if you blink at 400kmh you haven't seen a thing for around 20m .. 4 car lengths :D
