I'm surprised they didn't mention tipping, which in Japan is rarely acceptable and can even cause offence, whereas in the USA you're considered a social outcast if you refuse to tip or tip too little.

#4 yeah i hate that tip thing in the USA. If it is expected then add the price to the food and give the extra to the waitresses.

#5 Whenever the subject of tipping crops up I'm reminded of this scene from Reservoir Dogs:

Laws against open alcohol containers (i.e. "drinking";) in "public" are varied from state to state, and from locale to locale within states. It's simply not accurate to say that you can't legally drink in public in the US.

Despite a few exceptions drinking alcohol in public in the US is either illegal and/or frowned upon, an absolutely ridiculous regulation. So people put their alcohol bottles in brown paper bags as to conceal them, so inconspicuous!...lol

#8 yeap..
#5 great scene.. we tip around here if we are pleased with our service, and you rarely reach 10%

i personally tip.. although last few years i start to share Mr Pinks opinion.. nobody tips me after my service.. they usually ask for a discount or prolonged payment .. no matter how hard i worked .. and no matter how bad my current paycheck is

Americans have very stupid behaviours. I am the guest/customer in a restaurant and the waiter has to serve me. So where is the problem when I get in contact and ask for another drink?!
Also in Germany you can drink whatever you want in public, people even cheer (when you are not a drunk punk or something).

What I hate must about Americans is the stupid "Hi, how are you?"- question. The person who asks is not interested at all for my feelings and just asks, because it's "normal" to ask this hypocritical question. I often make fun of that and ask back "Thanks, I'm fine. How are you?" and get silly looks.
