Great ad. But this implies that the BMW can do speeds of excess of 1200km/h to keep up and overtake the ThrustSSC. Which is false advertising.

They had to use a BMW because a chevy would been too far ahead and a Ford would have been in the shop.

#9 - Yep! Not Thrust SCC! This car looks very similar to Turbinator 111 & Turbinator 2001. Thou the 'cockpit' of this one is much further in the rear. Another project that looks similar is the JCB Dieselmax. Any1 who can tell something about this one? ... and the vid was filmed during the last fase of the run when the speed already had decreased a lot.... :)

I don't think those actual record drivers can appreciate this ad.

Ok! Believe I've got it figured out - as you can see the car got the number 447 in both rear and front. Its participating at the annual Bonneville speedweek - asume its 2000 or 2001.
There's a site http://www.landracing.com - thou I could not find a pic of car 447. Perhaps due to an agreement with BMW about the ad... a similar looking car is 448 with couple of pics of it... :)

Just FYI on this ad. The 447 LSR car was developed by TBWA Hunt Lascaris in South Africa in conjunction with BMW and Tarlton Raceway. It ran at the Hakskeenpan salt flats located a few miles from the Namibian border. Andy Green from Thrust SSC was out here however the car was driven by S.A. National Drag Racing Champion, Nico van Rensburg from Tarlton. Speed was not the object of the exercise as another car with a special mounted camera had to run alongside the 447. It averaged around 230kph if that but all told, TBWA created a magical moment. Andy Green and the Thrust SSC team will be back in South Africa in 2013 to run their new transonic "Bloodhound."
