In the USA we seem to be creative to have fun. In other countries, they are being creative to survive.

#1 Its sounds as if you mean that in a bad way? Maybe not. They are just "inventing" what we invented 100 years ago. We have the luxury of making things for fun because we made the practical long ago, allowing us the time and means to enjoy life. I would also add that several of those things were far from home built. They were clearly factory made, with logo's and phone numbers.
