It takes a special kind of idiot to stand in front of any gun...more so a .50 calibre...and think 'nothing can go wrong'. As they say 'you live and you learn...or you don't live long'. Now the girl has to bring up two kids on her own, and some time in the future they'll find out what happened to their father.

It takes a special kind of country to think that civilian ownership of a .50 calibre Desert Eagle is somehow responsible and falls under self or home protection.

No one needs a .50 calibre for self or home or family protection. That bullet will penetrate multiple things and travel forever. Perfect for civilian home use where you have kids … or anyone living next door.

This is the insanity of America. This sad situation occurred in the state of Minnesota.

In Minnesota a state permit is required to purchase a handgun from a store BUT state law does not require background checks for private gun show sales. Are background checks required for private sales? No. Training required? No. Waiting period? no. Firearm registration? No. Owner license required? No.

So if you don’t buy at a gun store, which most people don’t, you don’t need any training, a licence, or to register it. Or common sense apparently. Just the cash.

And that is how you end up with a young man holding a book against his chest as protection against a .50 calibre at 2-3 meters and a 22 year old widow with 2 children.

Only in Umerica could you legally put a weapon like that with such power in the hands of a completely untrained novice. And not see a problem with that and defend this idiot couple’s unfettered right to own it.

What an absolute idiot, the frightening thing is that his genes have been passed on. I mean come on even a partial idiot would have done a test run, bought two identical books, risked a foot or a hand or in his case the space where his brain should have been. Ironically if he had read a few more books rather than using them to kill himself he might still be alive. Face-slap:|

In France we can have this kind of gun. We only have to fill a permission and get the validation (like almost any firearm) . Then we can use it in firing range. We are not allowed to uncase it outside of home and the range. We are not allowed to load it outside of range.

We are one of the most weaponize country in Europe (I think we are the same as Norway), but i've never heard something this stupid happen.

We don't use weapons for home protection, just fire them at the firing range and for some calibers, we can also hunt with them.

Give this man a murphy's law award :D

More seriously, as an ex fireman I've always been shocked how people think it only happens to others. Like speeding. Every people we took out of the car had a good excuse and most of the were delusional : they killed people. If you'd show everyone what a real accident look like when you take out some crushed in half by a car begging for help they will think twice about it. It's the same for firearms. The tool isn't "bad" by itself, it's the usage that makes it stupid.
In my opinion, they should release the full video and show everyone what happen when you mess up with firearms. Some people may find it shocking but definitely it will dissuade some stupid ones to make so. Some people need to be educated the hard way.

#4 Lets be a little more accurate about the French gun laws:-
According to the University of Sydney's Gun Policy website, gun control in France is categorized as "restrictive." Keep in mind that, unlike in the U.S., France does not have a "right to bear arms" — the right to privately own a gun is not protected by law. In order to purchase a firearm, one must first obtain a hunting or shooting sport license, which requires a psychological evaluation and regular renewal. Semi-automatic rifles that can hold more than three rounds, as well as rifles and handguns with military-grade calibers, require permits. Fully automatic weapons are completely illegal for civilians. If one purchases or possesses a gun illegally, the punishment is a maximum of seven years in prison, plus a fine.

It's not exactly like that.

I have a license and I never passed a psychological test. I just paid 120€ to my club and was delivered a card.
With that I can instant buy any hunting rifle (cal12, 22LR, etc) and ammo that is not semi automatic and require a lever a pump action. I just have to declare the weapon through a form after I bought it.
For the renewal. I just pay my license, nothing else.

When you have your license and about 6 month to 1 year of controlled range, you can ask for a type of weapon you want. Then your demand is examined but you don't get a psychological test either. The only thing you do it a test of some questions on how to handle your weapon (how to carry it, can you point it at people, ...). It takes about 1 or 2 month to check your background and then you can buy any semi automatic you want from the category you asked for.

For example you can have a MG-42, AR-15, AK-47, FAMAS, 45ACP 1911 pistol, which are military grade but contain a piece that don't allow you to use them in more than 1 semi automatic round by press of the trigger. Most of the time the magazines are loaded with 5 ammo, you can go higher if you want.
Some people in my club even have sniper rifles (PSG-1, FRF1) with scopes.

The only thing you have to do each year to conserve your weapons is to fire 3 times in controlled range with any pistol of any caliber (no even yours) 5 round each time (so 15 round in total) and pay your license to a club.

But you're right, in France you don't have the right to bear arms in the open. If you transport them you need to secure them and separate the ammunition from the gun in different bags. Fully automatics are illegal for civilians.

I'm standing and clapping, giving this tool a standing ovation. Just wish we could see it as well. Stupid is as stupid does.

I only regret his girlfriend was involved. Poor girl.

Hopefully the bad gene missed the first 2 kids. Maybe we got lucky.
