I don't about you but it's the variety in this video that appeals to me. Was anyone else thinking I wonder what wasp stew tastes like?

Like with ants, different wasps have different roles in the colony. He likely killed all the soldiers first, as they were trying to protect the nest against this strange threat. The remaining wasps are likely to be of the nursing kind, and do not attempt to attack and defend.

#2 You have a point there, but even the females or nursing kind have to eventually leave the nest to get nutrition. I don't know much about wasp, but it seems as if they are capable to learn and change their behavior. Very interesting video!

There was no change in behavior. Those never did fly to it. He just killed the ones that did. A thinking person would just buy a can of spray. Wait till evening when they are all in and then kill the lot with no mess.

#6 plus I think the spray has chemicals that cover up the pheromones which attract them back to the area and eventually rebuild the nest. Hitting them with wire is just a waste of time (and now mine!)

Seems like an unusually complicated and messy way to get rid of wasps.
I had a similar problem at my previous house.
A couple of cans of insect killing foam sprayed liberally over the entrance as wasps arrived and left did the job niceley. Swept up the little buggers off the slabs the following day. Job done.
