Thanks for this thundersnow,
The Paris Climate accord was a last ditch attempt to stop the madness.
It won't fix it but can buy us some time.
Denying something does not make it go away.

snortfab89,
Of the approx 212 nations on the planet, there is one which appears to be the source of most of the climate change denial material.
That nation has just installed a former oil and mining industry lobbyist as secretary of the interior.
That one nation alone is capable of sabotaging the efforts of the other 95% of the human population to save the Earth from the monumental damage that human-made emissions are causing to the atmosphere and the planet.

#3 Bullocks. The Paris Climate Accord, if followed verbatim, might have thwarted warming by 0.02C by 2100. Hardly THE last ditch effort to "save the world"! :D And according to AOC, we've only got what 11 years and 10 months left so that would have been a big fat WHIFFF anyhow. And if I recall correctly, the US actually lowered our emissions. We were not part of the accord, yet we beat all of the other countries in reducing CO2. HA!

#2 Al Gore made it a political issue. These folks have been so hysterically wrong in their past predictions that no sane person would take them seriously. Several countries have tried to go "Green", but the costs to their economies are at least 2x the returns. Who can afford to do that?

#4 Let me guess, the good ole US of A. You're so cute with your "I will not name the country". The US can sabotage 95% of efforts of the rest of the world? Really? We're 22% of the worlds production of CO2. That doesn't really equate to 95% sabotage. See our previous banter regarding China who will obliterate any progress made by the rest of the world. In only a decade they've doubled what the US is producing and they'll continue to grow as their middle class continues to grow. You can't stop it. Furthermore, India is expected to surpass the US before 2030 (thereby passing the EU as well). So to summarize, the US and the EU could turn off all the lights and start walking today, and it won't make a difference by say 2050. Maybe sooner depending on the growth of those two countries. That is to say IF the CO2 levels worldwide today, are already too high.

Please Mr. Robert Tusk, this hyperbole around the issue is what fuels (pun intended) the skepticism many folks have. Your over the top banter doesn't pass the sniff test.

Freak weather used to be just that - freak weather, but now every event, large or small is produced as an example of climate change. The handy thing about labeling it climate change instead of global warming, which is what it used to be called, is that even when we have a dodgy cold spell, it can still be held up as a confirming instance of climate change.

People love to get hold of a topic and milk it to death. Climate change, brexit, whatever... the other day a large building in France was partly damaged by fire. We had to suffer several days of hysterical blanket news coverage as a result. :|

#7snotraddict.
Please check your facts before committing them to print.
The Paris accord was an attempt to LIMIT the global temperature rise to 2.0 degrees C not 0.02C.
Ideally we would keep it the same as today but it is too late to achieve that so it is damage limitation mode not problem resolution. It was deemed too late to keep it to 1.5C, so you can kiss the coral reefs goodbye.
Against the odds, the world did come to an agreement.
Some time later Mercer puts trump into the white house, and the petulant trump throws a series of hissy fits.

What exactly do you recall about US emissions?
You say USA produces 22% of the worlds CO2 pollution.
Well, the USA is only 4.4% of the world's population.
So what does that tell you?
(Curiously the US also has 25% of the world's prison population).
Some perspective as regards US pollution.
Like in the 20th century, Americans are still the biggest polluters.
(of bigger countries - little oil states like Bahrain and Kuwait are worse than America).
The per capita carbon footprint of China is 6.57 tons.
The per capita carbon footprint of USA is 14.95 tons.
That is despite much of the west's heavy industry moving to China.
Are you suggesting that we in the west be allowed to pollute the planet more than a person in the east?

There seems to be a size limit to comments here so this is the first part of a much longer comment which I am unable to post due to this limit.

Interesting. I am sure that the salvation of our planet is the most important task in the 21st century. Not sure that we can do something, but our children can.
In order to make important decisions you need to be very educated, and books can help them with this. Useful books can be found right here https://bookkooks.com/the-wonderful-things-you-will-be-review/ where there is a informative book.
