Who on earth is going to have the solder (correctly pronounced SODDER), flux, and heat shrink tubing but not a soldering iron?

#2 Power cut? and what do you mean correctly pronounced SODDER it's FECKING Solder like older and bolder and colder not like fodder or odder or dodder. ;)

#4 Don't make me debate English with a UK resident. I could spend days citing town names alone, showing how you lot treat letters as entirely optional when it comes to pronunciation. That's after I'm done talking about that big river in London, which you guys pronounce as a German would the word Thaems.

And all that's before having a big laugh about how you think Nicaragua is pronounced. And before I begin my lengthy lecture on aluminum, which is the one and only correct name for the metallic element at the heart of the oxide salt alumina.

I disavow all Southern US pronunciation, though they're actually much closer to the UK, in many respects. A modern rural Georgian accent is more representative of the mainstream English accent of the late 18th century than any current accent in the UK.

My trigger finger is itching.

#1, I whole-heartedly agree with you and the correct Oxford and Cambridge English Dictionary states it is pronounced with the"L". Strangely, the Americans, who would normally pronounce things as they sound when spoken by the English, are somewhat amiss with this one, just like Aluminium, which has two "i",s in the word.
When it comes down to it, English is the primary language of the English and those that are educated and herald from England. US English is a derivative for those that cannot spell properly and has been distributed around the world by American companies and their owners that believe they hail from England, Scotland or Wales where the language is spoken properly but lack the proper education in the language.
