Top 20 Country Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Emission History (1960-2017)

This video shows the Top 20 countries by the total annual carbon dioxide emission (CO2 emission) from 1960 to 2017. United States contributed to almost 1/3 of the entire world's CO2 emissions in the 1960s but China and India started catching up in the early 2000.

China's population is 4.36 times that of the United States.
https://www.worldometers.info/world-population/population-by-country/

The USA's per capita carbon footprint is still double that of China.

China 8.0
Europe 8.6
Japan 9.4
USA 16.1

2018 figures for CO2 emissions by country name in metric tons per capita.

Good ole Tusky, still fawning over China. I'm not sure what his point is.

He has always like to spout about the "per capita" CO2 footprint with China being 4x the population than the US. But don't the Global Warming religious fanatics say that current CO2 levels are already too high?

IF the current levels are too high, then per capita is a useless measure, isn't it?

China's CO2 is already more than 2x the US and more than the US AND the EU combined. Do we want 4x the current levels to call it "fair".

Since 1990, both China and India have increased their CO2 by over 300%, while the US has increased by 0.4% and the EU has decreased by 20%. We've moved our industries to China, switching CO2 output to China vs. other countries. What did we think would happen? LOL

I heard on the news last night that we are rapidly approaching the climate change point of no return. Well, I wish we would just hurry up and get there, and then we can all move on and turn our attention to other stuff instead. Another bonus is that it would remove that irritating little Greta Iceberg kid from the newspapers. Shouldn't she be in school? :|

#2 You are right, the west exported many of it's dirty industries to China and that has made things better in the west and worsened things in China.
America has traditionally been the worlds biggest polluter.
However, lately Americans have started referring to China as the "Worlds biggest polluter"
Americans use almost twice the resources as Europeans or Japanese or Chinese.
#3 Point of no return means thermal runaway.
That's what happened to our sister planet Venus with excess of CO2.
Surface temperature there now permanently 600 degrees C.
You won't like it.

#4 Thanks Robert. I never realised that Venus was once inhabited and that the Venusians' gross mistreatment of their planet led to the rise of CO2 there, with its inevitable and catastrophic effects on the Venusian climate. It all makes sense now. Did the same thing happen on Mars as well? :)

The sharing forum I have read, the content is very practical, it gives me a lot of useful information, I like the content of your article very well. I hope you will have many new posts to share with readers.

Slightly impressed UK's output has halved.
Still more to be done. We need the Green New Deal. :squirrel:

#5 Don't be childish fox.
The CO2 in Venus' atmosphere came from its volcanoes.
The laws of physics apply to all planets.
The more CO2 in the atmosphere, the hotter it gets.
Average temp on the surface of Venus is 450 °C, that is hotter than your oven fox.
Mars was too small so its gravity could not hold onto its atmosphere forever.
Being small, its iron center has already solidified so it has no magnetic first to deflect the Solar wind which speeds up its loss of atmosphere.
Average surface temperature on Mars today is −63 °C ( −81 °F).
By the way David Koch died, so he is no longer funding the climate change denier industry.

#7 The UK has stopped including emissions from its aircraft arguing they are mostly somewhere else.
Not cool since the Brits are the most frequent flyers.

#8 Thanks for explaining that Robert. We're lucky to have a Venus expert on Snotr, and what an eye-opener to find out that the laws of physics apply to all planets eh? I thought they only applied to Earth, and possibly the moon.

So the CO2 on Venus came from its volcanoes? Well, all I can say is, lucky for us there aren't any volcanoes here on Earth. Phew! What a relief eh? Looking at your figures, I notice that at the moment it's 450 °C on Venus, which is down by 150 °C on five days ago when you said it was permanently 600 °C. That's amazing! :O at this rate it could be a balmy 28 °C on Venus by the weekend. :D

By the way, were you aware that one of the founding father climate change believers Wallace Smith Broecker has died. Just thought you might like to know. :)

#9 Amazing foxy you actually looked up some science, there is hope for you yet. The surface temperature of Venus will vary depending on whether you are poles or the equator, daytime or nighttime, but we are agreed that it is hotter than your oven.
You would not like it there.
Most of the Earths CO2 did indeed come from its volcanoes (along with a lot of other gases). Venus has more volcanoes than any other planet in our solar system - hence the extra CO2 there.

Wallace Smith Broecker did indeed do scientific work on the climate, but he was one of many scientists.
Physicist John Tyndall is commonly credited with discovering the greenhouse effect, which underpins the science of climate change. Starting in 1859, he published a series of studies on the way greenhouse gases including carbon dioxide trapped heat in the Earth's atmosphere.
In the 1960's, Exxon researchers were concerned internally about the problem of greenhouse gases.
In the 1970s everyone internally in Exxon knew it.
https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/exxon-knew-about-climate-change-almost-40-years-ago/
Since then, Exxon has spent more than $30 million on think tanks that promote climate denial.
“There’s even a quote in it that says something like ‘Victory will be achieved when the average person is uncertain about climate science.’
The granddaddy of think tanks paid to push out lies was heartland institute.
The heartland institute is an ultra right wing think tank that pimps itself out to the worst US Industries.
The nickname for this institute is "The Merchants of Doubt"
They specialize in FUD (sowing Fear Uncertainty and Doubt)
It was the leading propagandist for the tobacco claiming there was no link between smoking and lung cancer.
Working for Phillip Morris, Brown and Williamson etc
It has waged war on the FDA and the EPA for decades.
In 2008, the Institute made up and published a list purporting to identify "500 Scientists with Documented Doubts of Man-Made Global Warming Scares". When those scientists asked to have their names removes from the list the institute's then president, Joseph Bast, argued that the scientists "have no right—legally or ethically—to demand that their names be removed" from Heartland's list.
It is a despicable "Gun for hire" for the worst corporations operating in the US.
They sure fooled you foxy.
Have a look at some of their previous clients perjuring themselves.
