Australia's liberal party had a fine record in Government.
Sir Robert Menzies signed the Antarctic Treaty and established the CSIRO.
Malcolm Fraser rescued Fraser Island from sand miners.
Premier Sir Rupert Hamer’s (39th Premier of Victoria) impressive environment legacy included the Environment Protection Authority and creation of Melbourne’s famed green wedges.
Hamer not only founded the EPA, but gave Aboriginal communities ownership of their lands, abolished death penalty, decriminalized abortion and homosexuality, introduced anti-discrimination laws and rescued Melbourne's tram system.
Then along came John Howard (PM 1996-2007) who trashed a lot of the good work and turned against environmentalism.
The COP3 climate change conference was held in Kyoto in 1997.
90% of Australians were “concerned” or “very concerned” about global warming
But the big polluters (Mining) and US republicans got to Howard.
He used his “land use” credits con trick to get Australia out of reducing emissions.
For the US, Al Gore did fine work but the (GOP controlled) congress refused to ratify Kyoto.
Kyoto was to be the big one to finally get the world addressing the planet pollution issue.
But it was sabotaged by the 2 biggest per capita polluters - the US and Australia.
Australia behaves in the same manner at every climate conference.
The same countries block progress in tackling climate damage - the US, Australia, Japan and Saudi Arabia.
At COP25 in Madrid last month they were joined by Brazil's Bolsonaro who wants to clear the Amazon rain forest.
In Queensland, there are plans to open another huge (government subsidized) new coal mine to produce 60 million tonnes of coal a year, much of it "low quality, high ash". (Carmichael coal mine). Deutsche Bank and HSBC refused to fund the project because of the environmental carnage that would follow. Not just on land and in the air but also because of plans to dump dredge spoil in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.
Australia ships vast amounts of coal to China's power plants.
This year the current PM Scott Morrison blasted school kids for organizing protests for climate action.
In the midst of the country's climate chaos, Morrison seeks normalise environmental catastrophe and jets off to Hawaii on vacation.
So while Australians watch the world's largest coral reef dying off their shore, endured a decade of droughts, massive fish kills, the country burning, record high temperatures, intense cyclones, vast flooding, and loss on mangroves, their government is relentlessly sabotaging the world's attempt to save itself.
Here is a ranking of how countries are doing.

#1 In my state there are record fires, damage and deaths are at an all-time high, yet it's the power company's lack of infrastructure maintenance (overseen by a strong Democrat party) that is causing the fires and deaths.

It's not all climate change and it's not all Conservatives. It's political whores.

Doesn't look like much fun being out there.

And now we also find out that arsonists started fires in Australia.
