#0 The only thing for certain, is that we have failed to find life on Mars. That alone is not proof it doesn't exist there. Before launch, NASA or whatever / whoever disinfect all instruments so they won't contain life (or life like) material from Earth. That also applies for other missions to other destinations. Once polluted with our life, it gets almost impossible to determine if life has existed there before.
