This is what makes people want to shoot cops. He cooperated, did everything they asked and they still tazed him. And as a result agitated the guys mother, and then pepper sprayed her. These guys should be locked up. Hell, I'd beat the crap out of them if I had the chance.

I feel bad for the guy, he did nothing wrong.
I would love to see their excuse for this when he takes them to court for harrassment

I'm sorry to tell you, that was all normal procedure. That's why you should put your arms behind your back and don't move when asked. You don't criticize whatever the hell they think or ask anything like that. You can resolve anything that he thought he could resolve there without being arrested in the headquarters. If you try to go around those facts you might know a new friend (as he did), the taser guns.

#9 Why? Cuz I dont drink and drive?
26
17. SpikedSilver commented 15 years ago
he may be drunk, but it is only one reason more that one policeman should be sufficient. and why do they have tazers and pepperspray, cant they just hit them unconscious with on hit of the metal stick?

Well I have to agree with #12. The best way, pain in the butt that it may be, is just to do what they say. You can't win, all the power is on their side. In this case it does look like an overreaction with the number of cops there. However, the guy does stumble when he tries the test. A breathalyzer would have proved it one way or the other and he should have asked for one unless he had a lot to drink.

The problem is that the "power" of the police is the power that the citizens have given. The police have as much power as we allow them to have by creating laws. The problem is that FAR to often the system doesn't work due to cops taking "justice" into their own hands. Normal procedure, yes, correct procedure, no. Not a chance. Anytime the police stop you or invade your property or home they are REQUIRED BY LAW to give reason. That comes in the form of a written statement, whether it be a ticket or warning when you're pulled over, or a warrent if they come to search for something. Far to often the rights of the citizen are trampled by people who get hot headed in the situation. Adrenaline works, but don't we pay these guys to overcome that and think clearly? While a tazer is a lot better than taking a gun to the driver and passenger, I really saw no call for it. Just cuff the guy. Even if he resists.
This is right up there with the cops dumping people out of wheelchairs to make sure that they really can't walk. I'm not being critical of all police, I've been pulled over my fair share and there are some that are polite, but authoritative, and others who are just in a perpetual bad mood.
There's my two cents. Take them as you will.

It's really sad when you can't have a conversation or ask questions to police officers.
19
22. Atkinc088 commented 15 years ago
Where to start...
When you are being pulled over by the police you are to SAFELY pull to the far most right side of the road and come to a complete stop. The subject chose to slam on his breaks and veer dangerously to the right.
The video left out almost the entire field sobriety test and that idiot commentator was gabbing so much you can barely hear the conversation between the subject and the officers. Regardless if he passed the field sobriety test and regardless of his BAC the officer could have arrested him for suspicion of driving under the influence. His probable cause being the drivers A)Speed B)Reckless driving B)Smell of alcohol on the person. The reason they had so many officers there is because of the concept "strength in numbers." The subject is less likely to fight if he is outnumbered. By have more than enough officers on scene they have prevented injury to both the officers and believe it or not the subject. Being tazered or pepper sprayed is non life threatening. If the subject had not continued to argue while he was on the ground and refusing to put his arms behind his back he would have not been tazered. If the mother stayed in the car rather than trying to stop the officers than she would have not been sprayed. Remember one simple thing - take the argument to court. You cannot argue your case on the side of the road regardless if you are right or not.

Well nothing new when you see 6 cops at the night hr they have nothing better to do then to abuse there authority and drive around the gas station waiting for a parking space so they can grab there free donuts and coffee..They have there clicks and your only in there click if you act like all of them. That's why every cop agrees with every cop.To me there pathetic..."Pepper spraying an old laddie"?..Give me a break what a bunch of irrogant donut eaters.I hope they loose there jobs and get charged with assault and battery on 2 unarmed people.Maybe that will teach them some respect.

#16 No there can't be riots on the streets because A) they have banned all public protest in the vicinity of government buildings and B)Everyone would get massively tasered and pepper sprayed and probably killed, because if you don't support the government then you must support the terrorists which means you ARE a terrorist and what point is there to not kill terrorists if they're publically displaying their hatred and outright wish to destroy the United States on the streets

It's a proven fact, if you stop on the streets in the downtown of any major city in the US and you start talking about something in a loud manner with your friends, you'll be in the slammer before you can say, omg the donutmunchers are here

#22 "Being tazered or pepper sprayed is non life threatening" bet you`d love one of those for no reason. or are you sadistic? do you taze yourself in the shower? try to be a little more empathetic and you`ll see the pepper spray you use when social situations require crying is not required.
And don`t try to look "fair" by bringing the law in. According to the law, since you brought it in, policemen shouldn`t act according to their ego (of course they were frustrated, as some other people humorously pointed out here) and the tazing was triggered by just that.
And what`s that? Take the argument to court? Like that guy in the wheel chair that died??!! (afair) Close out eyes and let them rape us?? This is your ADVICE??

#(removed comment) Sorry man but having watched this I have to agree with others here on the 'threat level vs the force applied'.
That was way OTT &, like others have commented, I DO hope these dickhead cops are all sacked.
I've seen another vid about a cop, in the US again (funny that), who tazed a guy five or six times on just a routine stop. He got sacked & rightly so.
It all boils down to that saying:
"Power corrupts, but ultimate power corrupts absolutely".
Maybe those cops were on something before they went out that night...?
I just watched the latest COPS where they pulled two guys in a parking lot just going for their laundry. They had no other reason for doing it other than they had nothing better to do. That's my opinion & I'm sticking to it.
Thank God I don't live in the US!
It'll be all 'Change' tomorrow with Obamas inauguration...right?

Of course only a "Dumbass" would use different logon's when they are at home as they have obviously not realised they can use the same logon at home , at work , in a hotel , at a station , um , anywhere .
Dumbass .
#22 "Being tazered or pepper sprayed is non life threatening."
I was under the impression that around 170 people had died from being assaulted with a Tazer by police or security staff . There was a well publicized case in Canada recently at an airport .

If only cops could be treated the same way as normal civilians, then I'm sure they wouldn't do such things as these. If anyone has seen the movie Lakeview Terrace w/ Samuel L. Jackson they know exactly what I mean by not being treated the same, the movie is very accurate in the treatment issue.

#35 that is correct....
#22 being tased can be life threatening, but it is only life threatening if the person who is tasing uses the taser to torture the person being tased. unfortunately, some cops pretend to miss that day in law enforcement school and take the opportunity to get a few extra zapps in which have resulted in some deaths.
personally, i think that there should be law enforcement programs for weeding out sadistic cops.

@(removed comment) So, in essence, we agree that the actions of those cops was excessive. They would have seen the guy was drunk & maybe a bit rowdy himself but there was no need for a small army of cops. Two would have been sufficient in my view.
Also this clip was most likely on a stupid 'bloopers' TV show in the UK with some equally stupid commentator making light of what was a serious situation.
Anyway, we won't fall out over it as you most likely know more about the US cops work than me.
Cheers USAnumber1 Oldfart

#50 .. Yeah,, that's the weirdest part in all of this.. We have been using alcometers (breathalyzers) here in Estonia for years..
--
And #(removed comment) [... speeding at 21 mph OVER the speed limit.Going that much over the limit is automatically considered reckless driving and usually gets you a night in the slammer ...]
In my younger days of driving I once managed to do 35mph over the limit and all i got was a fine and my dr.lic. taken for a month.. no tasers, no pepper spray and no nights in the slammer..
--
And yes.. Talking back a little to a police officer does not (or definetly should not) constitute him/her to resort to physical violence.. words are usually really good things to counter other words

In my country it is considered illegal to be driving if the alcohol level in the blood is more than 0.1 promills (pptv).
This is determined with a standard issue alcometer, the police conducts random tests in raid-days (where it is announced that there will be a big checkup on the roads that day) and randomly.
Estonia does have a drink and drive problem.. a lot of ppl get hurt on our roads.. noone really knows why this is.. I guess we just have a lot of adrenaline junkies on the road..
And sure, every country does have its own laws and its citizens should abide to them.. But in Estonia the chance of anyone stepping up to the police is a fraction of what it is in the States.. To get tasered by a cop in Estonia, you'd have to get out of the car, when you're pulled over, go to the trunk, get a 2x4 out of it and start walking firmly towards the police officer.. And they'd hesitate even then

I hope this will be my last post on this topic.
I want to support, to a certain extent, USAno1 / Oldfart.
We all, and I mean ALL of us, did stupid things while behind the wheel of a car. Speeding was my only offence. I got a few tickets. The most STUPID was when I first got my license. I overtook an unmarked police car & around 80. That was SO dumb.
But I've matured with age too & I've got the rest of my life to live. I don't want to spend it behind bars or have my license revoked!
Just be sensible & hopefully you won't ever meet that 'A-Team' crew of cops at the road side.
I know I wouldn't like to meet them
Drive safe.

If anyone ever gets this low on the comments, I'd like to make two points:
Firstly, that the American cops have to be ruthless as Americans carry handguns, so their thuggery develops in the name of self preservation which then of course then becomes the standard way of dealing with citizens.
Secondly: Oldfart/USAno1, all those times when it seemed like people were speaking out in support of the good 'ol USA, it actually was just a lone nut.

This is a European tv show that has no idea what is going on. The cops were following protocol. Backup was sent for the 3 other people in the car. Smell of alcohol is probable cause for a search. Hand in the pockets is immediately threatening. The video is in Georgia NOT South Carolina. He refused to put his hands behind his back to be cuffed. He was going to get detained and processed with a breathalizer but he wasnt cooperating.
Toward the end the announces comments on American foreign policy. Before you are told what to think by comedy shows, question what the hell is going on first.
But isnt it easier to assume the cops are all racists? Of course. Thats the way they are. Thats what they teach in America (sarcasm).
