Ohhhh - GPS head-up-display. Yeah, that makes sense.

Not saying that having a flexible Japanese hotty in front of me during my drive to work wouldn't be nice, but it would cause no end of carnage on the road.

imagine if they could make a 3d transparent display- that'd rule! also some kind of goggles for blending the line between real life and VR

uhm... didn't they already invented this like 5 years ago??

I remember a show on the Dutch Discovery or something where they talked about a thin layer of plastic they placed on shops display windows and they could run advertisements on it. And at the same time you could also see what was inside etc.

?

#6 -> it would have been a proof of concept. nothing near where this one is. this model can be produced for the masses within 2 years.

#4 when i was living in the Netherlands some years ago i remember watching a documentary where a company was working on a concept for a 3d liquid crystal display screen that worked by projecting single layers of a 3d object on synchronized layers of transparent lcd screens that were fused together in a 3d matrix. something you wouldnt need goggles for ;)

#6 i saw a documentary in the Netherlands some years ago myself which described the same thing too. except the one i saw was more transparent as well as flexible.

personally, i think lcd is out dated. you will be better off with micro led (light emitting diode) screens because they offer transparency, better resolution, low power consumption, can be flexible, are cheaper to make not to mention they are paper thin!

You would expect lcd to be more of a thing for transparent displays as they need a backlight. Would be cool though to use as a helmet- or carscreen. But expensive if it gets broken. so maybe projection would be more usable.

there is another technology which i particularly like which is based on cuttle fish and chameleon chromatophores. they are like tiny prisms that change shape in order to reflect a different color. i doubt if the technology has been developed for visual display screens but it would be neat.
