I wonder if the real car will look the same. I remember the GM Volt prototype. When I first saw it I say WOW what a cool car, I want it! But then the real produced car looked like 10 years old Seat Toledo of my grandpa. No thanks.

I guess Tesla Model S got its name from the infamous amazing Nicola Tesla. We owe Nicola a lot, if you do not know who this man was seriously go google him. Also check out Wilhelm Reich, Stanley Meyer, Jim Lawson, Floyd Sweet, John Bedini, and Eugene Mallove. These are men who were real heroes, seriously the possibly solution to our needs as a people on this planet, however, the greed of a few men ..... will I am not going to write a essay go read for yourself, and learn what you'll never be taught in school.

I dont understand why they still produce gasoline and diesel cars.
0-60 in ±5sec. 130mph, is pretty impressive.
I say, stop making gas powered cars and start with mass production of elec.cars.
No more high gas prices, and the electricity can be stored with solarpanels etc.

Do I make a good point or what..
I think I have a little too much time on my hand :P

hmm. that makes you think. "why don't we stop making gasoline cars and start making all electric ones?". well i'm sure it's not cost effective at this time. i just hate giving money to oil companies.

#6 and #8 - because electric engine is so simple, there is almost nothing to broke. Also it operate at much lower temperatures and with higher temperatures (in combustion engine) failure rate raise significantly (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arrhenius_equation). Electric engine operate at room temperature. The car companies has giant profit from selling spare engine parts. That is the reason why this car is produces by unknown company and not big car maker company like ford, gm, etc...

why they really try to make all of these cars, is electricity cheap? or it is clean? still electricity generated from coal most countries and i think thats more hazardous than the exhaust gases, think about that?

#6, watch the top gear episode on this car and you will understand why this car completely FAILS at life in general and is not a viable alternative to gas powered cars in any way.

They drove the smaller car around the track for under an hour and its batteries were completely drained, then it takes 16 hours for the batteries to charge again. And just like your Laptop, the batteries will wear over over a period of years and need replacing (typically 5 years)... guess how much they cost? $36 grand is what Tesla officially quoted. Current Lithium Ion & Alternative battery technology just wont do the trick. Imagine $36,000 every 5 years to keep your car running. You could buy a fairly nice luxury car for that amount of money.

So lets see, you can buy a gas powered version of the same small car they make for $60k, or for a little more you can get the supercharged exige which does 0-60 in about 4 seconds, and still gets 29mpg.

Oh and when you run out of fuel, it takes less than 5 minutes to fill up at a gas station instead of waiting 16 hours at a charging station.

Battery powered cars with current battery technology = stupid. I'll take turbocharged gas engines over electric any day with current technology.

Let the tree hugging hippies bring on the bad votes...

The EV-1 was a far superior vehicle, so well made that GM destroyed all but one after the customer test. The sole remaining one was disabled and sold to a collectioner.

#12, I understand what you mean, and you are totally right, but when they put a lot of effort and time in this, it will eventually become cheaper and more durable..

But I guess it will take a few years before they do.
We'll just wait and see what happens.

Until the battery can match the same or more energy output of a gallon of gas and fits to the same size or smaller than a gallon of gas the electric car is going nowhere.

Even though there has been big breakthroughs in batteries they are so far away from matching the same amount of energy stored in gasoline its not even funny. :|

Thanks #18 for the post, I almost forgot about that car. The FCX is probably the only real green car in existence. All the chemicals and work required to make batteries make them a non-option, but the FCX runs on hydrogen which will be around forever, unlike oil which will run out in a couple hundred years, and hydrogen can be made from water, which is also in abundance on earth, especially after global warming :P
