Sure it looks scary...to the pansies that run out of the way! I would do the same thing; I mean, come on, he's standing behind a concrete wall!! He knows he's safe, that is why he didn't flinch--he picked that spot for a reason.

I think at 0:22 you can hear someone yell at him for being a 'cold blooded' journo photographer - (I'd bet it was a notorious crash spot, and like #5 said, he picked it for a reason) - then he says "sorry, sorry" as he passes the camera.
