Outside of America we DO catch them bare handed. It's called cricket, the ball is every bit as hard as a baseball, it can fly just as far, and yes it can make your hands turn red if you don't catch it properly. But we can take it.

It's not a game, it's a practice session - they've obviously taken their gloves to have a bit of fun. Plently of people do this kinda stuff, where i'm from after games they let you have a kick of the football on the pitch after the game, so we all take our footballs with us.

you guys are forgetting to mention that another reason people bring their gloves to a game to catch fly balls is so that they can hopefully get it autographed by the player later. That would be one SWEET souvenir of the game!!

I'm going to have to agree and disagree with Henderson here. Being a fellow Australian (or he may be Kiwi), rugby is certainly a rough sport, one that I could not play because of the violent factor. It is true that Americans wear padding, though Henderson thinks it is sissy - the rules that are placed on Rugby today make it so that padding doesn't have to be worn. The American football is more of an "all out" affair whereas rugby you can't tackle above shoulders, below legs, no dumping etc.

Secondly - I hate Americans just as much as the next person but not bringing a glove to a baseball game is just stupidity. Trying to catch a ball like that barehanded WILL hurt. Henderson - try catching a cricket ball (a real one) barehanded after someone has bowled. There is a reason the wicket keeper wears gloves.

Stop being an internet tough guy Henderson. Go back to school and learn something before posting in a (mostly) mature environment like this one.

I would love to see Henderson get all suited-up in a Pro Football uniform and then take a hit from a 240 lb linebacker that can bench 450 lbs and can run a 3.6 sec. 40yard dash and then tell us the "sissy padding" kept him from getting hurt. He would probably explode like a dropped water balloon.
