If a balloon pops in (inner) space, and no one is there to hear it pop, does it make a sound?
Indeed it does! :D

hmmm thought when things and shit goes to the space, the gravity would take over....or wasn´t it not far away enough???

#4 Wasn't high enough to leave the earth's atmosphere completely and no where near far enough for it to escape the power of Earth's gravity. Was very well packed - I'm amazed the camera caught it all flawlessly too in all the extremes it went through.

Great video.

Be great if that landed in your backgarden - you could edit the video by dressing up as an alien and adding some footage in just before the balloon pops. That'd give them something to talk about >:) Great video

#6 "89 miles from the launch site after a 3 hr. & 56 min. flight" (from the webpage in the description of this video).

"The balloon and camera were launched at 7:44 AM, the balloon burst at 10:51 AM at 107,145 ft. and the camera landed via parachute at 11:40 AM, 89 miles from the launch site after a 3 hr. & 56 min. flight. The camera recorded a total of 4 hrs. & 22 min. of Hi-Def Video before it stopped recording 53 secs after landing, when its 32GB of memory was full. The only thing better would have been if the camera had recorded for several minutes more to captured the sound of us approaching and video of us opening its container."

#2 I think what we heard was the sound from camera rubbing against its casing. However since there is still air at that altitude there is a potential for the sound wave propagation as well just not as strong as in normal conditions.

#4 it is impossible to escape the Earths gravity. This is a common misconception where weightlessness is confused with the absence of gravity. Although gravity effects objects less and less the futher away they are there will always be a tiny force acting upon the object. Weightlessness is caused by the fact that you are falling at the same rate as the vessel you are in. Ojects in orbit maintain their altitude by using the centrifugal force of moving around the planet, but will eventually fall back to earth.

i just wanna know one thing. if im not mistaken when something so little as a pebble drops from that hight does it not reach such a speed that like a astroid it is red hot and could possibly make a whole where ever it drops or is that a stupid question. just curious.

I would like to know what kind of balloon this was and where to get one. Also what was the weight of the camera, could another object.... say a tiny, super annoying, barking Chihuahua owned by my sister be attached to it instead? I wont be needing the parachute either. ;)
