Eh it used to be blue screen ....but then again as some one else pointed out what happens when the scene requiers person in a green suit ? heres the history of chroma key if any ones intrested

I sort of think that it's cheating the audience in way but at the same time I have to think about all these locations taking place on busy city streets and what it takes to shut them down for a days worth of shooting. If there's a regular series like CSI or Law And Order, the streets would be closed all the time. So I suppose the digital green screens help for that purpose. Even though it's an art to build a scene digitally, something is lost in the expertise and artistry found in cinematography when the cameramen capture a scene beautifully and a director is able to choregraph so many things simutaneously in order to make it all work as opposed to cutting and pasting back on editing room computer.

#3 They are fooling us yes but they don't do that to hurt but to entertain us, which is still a good reason.

I always wondered how studios kept their costs down.
If they were doing that stuff in reality, the costs would be off the charts.
