i always thought freerunning was supposed to be getting from point a to point b as quickly as possible. i mean this video is cool and all, although they all look like douchebags, but are all the twirls really necessary?

They are like thieves running away with style from the cops.
Good for showing off, but pretty useless in real life...

they were just show off free running is meant to be just getting somewhere fast no matter what obsticles are in the way be it a building a building site etc. all the flips they are doing are just slowing them down like at 0:40 when he does a billion flips then lands in the puddle it would have been faster to just run straight through

Looks like the Music video of Papillon - Editors
In fact, that song could have done a good job as a background song for this vid

Well staged jumping and running about. Nothing impressive really

I don't get why freerunning is so popular compared to parkour... I enjoy parkour so much more. Thinking about how the slightest miscalcuation when amplified by a quadruple inverted flip (with a little bit of turning inside-out and then back again) equals... OHH there goes my ANKLE. Odd that I have no problem jumping from one building to another, but the idea of doing it while spinning all over the place just seems stupid. Kind of hypocritical huh?

Does anybody else ask the question, "Where are they running to?"

I'll just give my own opinion here! First; Doing all those spinning in the air when you jump like 1 meter wont help much if you run away from the cops! Second; Waiting for like a minute before jumping in a freerunning video is definetely a no-no. Think for a second, then go back, start the video, run and jump!

if you were hunt down by someone and instead of jumping instantly you would stop so you could land a back flip to look cool ..man you would be toasted

free running is the compeditive style-oriented offshoot of parkour, it is not the same thing. they require a lot of the same skills, but parkour, as well as being aimed at pure efficiency, is aimed at the mind as well as the body. 'strong body, strong mind' is the mantra of parkour practicioners and generally it is practiced for mental well being as well as physical. as well as that, competitions are not encouraged. in free running, points are given for style as well as efficiency. it might be showing off, but by that logic all sports are.
