Ok I'm about to freestyle what I'm about to say... many things in LIFE are diagnosed and compared to being a DRUG.... and guess what even falling in LOVE can be an actual addiction that we have... this guy apparently had a serious World of Warcraft problem I LOVE gaming as much as #1 =) but personally I can make a whole different video about this... I was in to drugs for a couple years and ironically Video games became my ANTI drug! I used to be a body builder and Prom King you name it.... the key to becoming a better MAN may take longer for some of us and it's never too late... especially for those that come from broken homes, single parent, no parent, Crappy parents! etc. But there is always a way to get there... it starts with you and believing it's possible.

It's your life.
Make your own choices.
If you want to play video games, play video games; they are a form of entertainment.
Don't dwell on how many hours you spend playing; that's useless. Do you count how many hours you spend watching movies? TV? Listening to music?
Like just about everything in life; take it in stride and moderate your use.
If you spent 100% of your time with your spouse, you'd quickly become disenchanted with each other.
Moderation.
I, for one, don't need a video to tell me the glaringly obvious.
Do you?

I know I dont have a perfect life... but who does? I rather play videogames and make use of my free time that way than let it waste during some other unentertaining and uninteresting activity. I have read thousands of books and still counting...
I own a webdesign company which btw makes me happy as well. I attend to university, I draw manga and some artsy stuff here and there, and I still manage to get my lvl 46 Sorcerer in aion to 50 soon.
I know how to manage my time, and I know what is important in life. Having fun.
As long as you enjoy and nothing bad comes from it you can do anything you want, but remember this: If you ever come across this question: "did it worth it?" than you my friend have overdone it. But nevertheless, you have 1 life enjoy it. Who knows whats w8ing around the corner.

I've found that video games has brought people together! Right from the first console that i had. "Hey wanna come over and play some video games?"
I don't hate them. I think they're awesome. It's too bad they messed up his life in his opinion. Video games are what you make of them. Share the experience! This is how i take videogames. You can play them alone, just to pass time... Or you can have fun with friends playing online. Meet new people. And then maybe go to a LAN-Party with your newfound friends. And make more friends. Thus building a huge community, meeting new people who all share a common interest.
I conclusion. What is there to not love about video games?

omg watching the burning crusade hurts my eyes.
if you like what your doing and you doing that, is it really wasting your life?
even if its not real?
i mean. i can go out with my friends spend loads of cash on drinks, dance in places where the sewer is even cleaner. and we probly get a fight. or we get stabbed shot or worse. that the way it goes nowwa days here.
or we fight bosses together in virtual worlds. in a save place at home. with a selected group of people you can trust.
wasting life.... is only in the eye of the beholder...

Sent chivers down my spine. Best film about the bad sides of gaming i have ever seeen.
Its really hard finding a balance between computer time and life. Very many people fails, especially the younger generation. I watch my son wanting to spend every waken hour in front of his computer.
I have to dropkick his behind into IRL everyday. Ive tried to direct his time towards doing something creative atleast but he has the attantion span of a ADHD kid when infront of a computer.

the Onlines games do tends to have these effect, more so for the MMOs than for the other genres, Games like quake, UT, CS, CoD focuses on combat instead of interplayer interaction, where as MMOs like runescape, WoW, Last Chaos requires a lot of non combat issues with other players and so is very time consuming. I started playing MMOs when I was 15 years old, I realised this 4 years later, Now I have almost graduated and the bigger focus is my career.

I was like that..
diablo 2, lord of destruction.
Was an amazing game and it did make room for conversation between friends, but at the end of the day it stoped me doing so much because of wanting to play it.
My schedule was like
sleep - diablo 2 , school, diablo 2, wank, diablo 2, sleep (tihnking of diablo 2 and sex) and repeat.
lol

Hmm, this video proves what MMo's and drugs have proven for a long time now, addiction...
I for one use the PC for gaming and work.
I realize gaming platforms are ruining people's lives because all they do is sit on a couch and play all the time, but having a PC is more to it if you can acknowledge that.
But when money speaks corporate entities listen, so as much as the market gets used to more( money) for less we won't see any change soon...
Gaming can be so much more (instead of just reading a book's story you can actually experience it)
But that's not for me to judge.
Take care!

(I play Counter Strike since August 25, 2008 )
My mom say´s that I´m addicted to pc(internet games etc)..
and that I am wasting my time instead of spending time in useful things (like studying)... so I can have a better life
I always answer NO!!
(but looking at mine 604 hrs of counter strike... tells me maybe she has a point [no joke - influenza - http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198000807984 ])
And now that i´ve lost a year in University... (including my scholarship)
I´m starting to gain some method in my life, for the first time!
I set the priority´s in my life... and add more time for studies and less for pc..
And I start realizing that instead of loosing free time...
I gain MORE!!!
yeahh thats right!!!!
Now I keep my school things updated...
and i have:
I have 1 hour for gaming [from 21h to 22h]
I have time to watch a movie or my anime [after 22h]
I i´m already thinking to do some jogging.. when I enter a bit late at school [10.30 am]
and of curse... my football game with my friends at sunday
yes.. I HAVE MORE FREE TIME!!
(or at least... better organized » less waste)

As if, turning of the game machine brings real life friends to the doorstep!? It just doesn't work that way. It also should have said all the boring things you could have done in the time it took gaming.
Don't get me wrong I do get and even appreciate the message of not letting games consume your whole life but turning the games of doesn't automatically give you the ambition/energy to do "great" things.
BTW I'm not much of a gamer but do spend to much time watching movies and such, if I didn't I would probably be staring in the distance.

Well, there are many other things in life that are totally meaningless, just like games. For example trying to achieve something in life, which is a waste of time since you wont live forever. Just like with games.
Just like someone above already said, not everyone in life are meant for great things. What exactly do you define as "great" things anyway? Lets be realistic here. You are born, you go through a brainwash procedure that lasts many years. When this is completed you start work and try climb your "career". In reality not many actually succeed with anything in life. You're just another person living, waiting to die.
The sooner you realize that you're not special, even tho your mom said so, the better. You're just a tool, waiting to be used and exploited. Games or not, life has really no meaning. To just assume that if you werent doing "this and that" i would be "this and that", is just plain foolish and naive thinking.
Lets look at it from the other side. You're not playing a game, you're out drinking and you love drinking. You get drunk one day and drive home. On the way home you drive over a kid while intoxicated. The kid dies. The morale of the story would have been, if you would have stayed home and played those stupid games that kid would be alive. Games dont hurt anyone, its just a time consuming process and you do it because you enjoy it.
Life is about having fun, enjoying yourself. The thing is we are all different so we cant assume that what i think everyone else will think is fun. I liked this video to some degree but its silly to assume that the time you did not spend playing games would make you a better person. It could be so wrong, so wrong.

I completely agree with you.. "Life is about having fun, enjoying yourself"!!!
For me that is only 1 life.. thens it´s "GAME OVER"...
so you should use that time you have.. to do useful things..
(and spending a life.. in gaming.. you will end up.. like ZERO!!!)
BUT when you say "In reality not many actually succeed with anything in life. You're just another person living, waiting to die... You're just a tool, waiting to be used and exploited"
and then... the example you gave... pls...
thats an extremist negative and "passive" way to see "life"...
For me life it´s about living.. and trying to live the best way!! and that implicit bad days too... but what the well
a day it´s only 24h... tomorrow it´s another day!!!!
and the best way to live... is to smile.. and have fun...
but the most important(for me)... i want to CREATE something in this world.. whether it´s a SON... a (amateur)PAINTING that I will pass to someone i like... a thought... a book... a film.... a MUSIC...
whatever works... but in the end... i had leave a piece of me in this world!!
and that would be a Happily Ever After...
ps. music (for me) is an important key... for my happiness
pss. i may agree that life (when you are born) is almost designed for you, the path to success is already been design for you...MONEY!!
and then you try to focus on that target... and forget the most important thing... THAT you only have one life... and you should live it at is best... HAVE FUN!!!!

#13 that is a good question, and I would say yes. My step son spends most of the weekend we have with him playing video games. I would like to spend more time doing things with him but he gets anoyed when I try to get him away from playing. My step son is a good kid and is popular in school, plays sports but on the weekends it's video game time. I'm not sure if he is wasting his life but I do know he is waisting our visitation time.

you see, when you buy a videogame there are warnings on it, when you buy medicine there are warnings on it, when you buy legal drugs there are warnings on it. The companies that sell videogames are aware of the consequences and on how this affects your child's life but it's more money for them. They don't care if the legal drugs are killing people since it's more money for them. In the USA you can buy guns and then you get great events like that in Columbine.
In japan, a couple of parents starved their baby of 9 months because they we're too busy feeding a virtual baby, part of an online game.
It is very hard to explain to a kid that videogames are bad and unfortunately playing them easily becomes a custom. It's hard for most people to understand that sitting hours in front of a computer, waiting hours for that cyber friend to reply to your post is not socializing.
Obesity and agrophobia are going to be two of the most treated diseases in our near future and since makers of videogames are perfectly aware of this, they try to make you move by - of course - staying indoors and play Wii, so that when you should be running half a mile and walk that same way back, after that quick wii tennis match, you just open your fridge, take a cold beer, some chips&dips and relax.
I'm happy to see, that there are people with 'moment's of clarity' like this..it looks that not everything's lost yet and there's still hope for kids.

Just sayin'.
