I would love to see it in its true life form.

so if you get a nasty scratch im guessing you will need to replace the whole skin?
which knowing bmw will cost more than a full respray on a normal car
nice concept though i guess..

Gina is flexible. I like that context.

@ #2: One would hope that the material would be flexible enough that what would scratch a normal car would just bend the fabric and not scratch. If not, like you say, it would get expensive rather quickly.

I have to say that I like the concept, and think that this would make for styles of car bodies that aren't available with just metal / plastic bodies.

This is a great idea! The shape of the car would probably change depending on the driving style, or maybe something new everyday!! Awesome

Aftermarket customizers could go wild with this, adding different forms under the fabric and creating new skins with different fabrics. Body by "Christian Dior" or "Dolce and Gabbana", ... :P

Now that's a sexy car.
the only things missing are 'Velocity' and 'Acceleration', so it will become VA-GINA.

Ehh GINA ...is an Acronym ? (wiki) "Geometry and functions In 'N' Adaptations" so sorry but FAIL , also what a load of crap the so called "skin" of the car might not hold it together but come on polyurethane-coated Spandex body panels read the wiki it all just seems a joke it can "grow" a spoiler at high speeds ...what so your telling me a spoiler held up by a few aluminium wires coted with some bloody track suit material is going to push the car down.

Also how many motors and hydraulic actuators will be used here and power to move all this pointless crap , and how many more things are there to go wrong , the more complicated you make a car the more things can go wrong with it , sorry but this is just taking the piss

And wow how handy i want to thrash this car ill just take my knife and scalp it.

Doesn't seem like it'd hold up to pebbles flying at it on the freeway at 100+ mph

Great until some looser decises to key your car, or a stone flicks up from the car infront or a weed eater.

Good concept if they can develop a material that's flexible and has the structural and strength requirement.

on the plus side your car could have a wardrobe so you can change colour every day. Just zip on a new "skin" and go.

Hmm, I see the word concept thrown around alot in here, but it seems like no one understand the meaning of the word, oh well.

Hi we here at BMW are trying anything to distract you from the real issues of oil dependency, the hand is quicker than the eye, look we put a condom on your car! >:) >:)

When the machines decide to take over the world, the last thing you'll see is GINA's gorgeous face, winking her headlight as she squishes your guts into the pavement.

Mm i'm sure i've seen this design somewhere else wayyyyyyyyyyy before BMW got hold it. I now have to think where i saw it. Probably someone in there back yard who designed it and then BMW stole the idea. Microsoft does that alllllll the time!

Though it looks very sexy, i love the lights!

By the time this gets to market (if ever), there will be no oil left - unless you want to go fishing with a bucket in the gulf of Mexico >:)

That sure saves a lot of weight.
I always wondered when major car manufacturers find a better way for the chassis:
It's scary to think about how when taking yourSELF from A to B you use 90% of the fuel to move the CAR itself instead of you, due to its weight...

Safety is another issue with this car though, I wonder how noone has mentioned it so far

Nice one! The only doubt is, what it would look like at ~150 km/h - when the fabric is that much flexible. Surely the best car to show off (well, actually Veyron might be a bit better... ;). Wink wink!

-Hahaaaaaaaa why not 'MorfMobile'; --well as an advanced-concept Automotive-designer i can say that this technique has been around since the first convertible-top! But such a notion as an entire flexile body while novel, would not save weight nor complexity in the overall envelope embodiment presented by this BMW, --and would not be particularly practical except in perhaps eliminating the cost of door-hinges and the nuisance of their critical assembly-line alignment; -and it would better be a living biological-component if one were to expect a compound-curved surface to yield without problematical resistance. However, i really like this BMW-Designer's low-key presentation, and he certainly did a keen job of selling the 'living-skin or tension-membrane concept' via his clever eye-slit opening headlamps! Otherwise, its likely back to the ol'drawing-board...!!! ~R.vH
