This can happen to cars aswell.
The test was to see how much heat the brake discs can handle.

#(removed comment) you aren't mistaken an-225 is the biggest plane and has the capability of taking off with 640 tons (MTOW). Still there is only one AN-225 in the world. 8-)

Aristoteles: purely hypothetically, load up with maximum cargo and mimimal fuel for takeoff, then fuel up in the air (needs mods ;-) and land with fuel tanks still full. Not very safe but at least the undercarriage can handle it.

Hi, could someone please explain how the machine works?

I'm guessing the disc of the right spins and accelerates the wheel. The brakes attached to the wheel then tries it's best to brake till it gives way?

#12 well it simulates the conditions u can see in the first few sec of the vid
and the wheel on the right pushes with as much force as the plane would have (kinetic energy) until it stops (which it did manage to do)
but its not nessesarily meant to set the breakes on fire but in these conditions it will/might happen

Did the brake pass the test?

Well in real life i guess they would only use that kind of braking in emergency and also plane's have air brakes and thrust reversal which is in effect turning the massive power of the turbine front ways and takes a load of wear off the brakes.

I guess they passed #16 they stopped the wheel did they not ?

#(removed comment) Antonov is from Ukrain by the way :)
Also it was built in the 80's when there was no Ukrain but USSR.
