What an amazing story, and such a loving family. Just shows what love, understanding and a laptop can do! Go Carly, you are fantastic! Namaste.

I would say that autistic peoples have some kind of brain overload and are to fast for human body to handle.
That's why autistic peoples are so amazingly smart inside, but outside are seen as mentaly retardet. She said that her brain pictures anothers face over a thousand times. Imagen experiencing this, it would be horrifying. here on snotr are some clips of some very smart autistic peoples and like that movie character in rain man. I think that brains are to advanced for human body.

I work with people with autism and this was amazing to watch. Most of them don't have a way of expressing themselves but to see this makes me think of how many of them might have normal intelligence but a body that won't cooperate and no means of communicating. It must be terrible. It is truly great to see that this girl found a way to let the world know how she really is.

#14 I dont believe that is true. God gave us our brain for a reason. To use it to fullest potential. We barely use a fraction of our real potential as humans right now. We are pretty early in evolution really. The proof is all around us however. The brain is an amazing thing but it is also a curse put on us.

@19 humans are meant for evolution, according to darwin, so if #14 is correct, the the autistic mind is so evolved that the human body cannot keep up with that pace. Imagine if in the future, say a few 1000 years from now, humans will not have their bodies anymore, instead they or we are floating brains. No need to consume an energy source, or the ability to move on the ground. Maybe we could float. ok im off topic, I really do not know what im talking about, I like my imagination.
But seriously, I find it hard to judge an autistic mind since we have very limited information of the human brain.
lol.

FANTASTIC, VERY MUCH EMOTIONAL.I SEE CARLEY EXACLY LIKE MY FRIENDS SON KARTHIK , HE IS NOW 11 YESR OLD. DOES NOT SPEAK, NO CONTROL ON HIS BODY. BUT DOES AMAZING THINGS WITH COMPUTER.
THOUGH HE DOES NOT COMMUNICATE VIA COMPUTER YET, HOPEFULL THIS VIDEO OF CARLY WILL DEFINITELY A INSPIRATION FOR US TO WORK MORE ON KARTHIK. GOD WILLING FROM NOW ONWARDS THINGS WILL CHANGE FOR KARTHIK FOREEVER.

While I may get a negative, this is a variation of FC (Facilitated Communication), which has been debunked for years, and preys on the emotions of the parents seeking any hope. As with those other forms, nobody ever asks how a child who was never taught to read and write can communicate through an intermediary with complex expressions (such as her typing "sensory input to block...","our brains are wired different...", etc ), and then correctly spelling such grown-up words without any education.
Remember, in the beginning, only one highly paid theripist saw her typing letters and spelling. Now, with software, a single keystroke makes a full word with computer software (6:44 - as "with" appears" ).
While she may perform in front of other therapists, is it her? At 8:11 she is given a cue by her therapist ("something funny" ) about to press the first key of "Is hhe cute". But it does not appear that it is the letter "I" that she presses on cue.
As with other FC presentations, I think this one needed more of a Penn and Teller approach, removing the facilitator from the room when the child is being interviewed. I feel for the parents, but I don't believe that the person communicating to them is their daughter.

#33: No negative from me, but I don't agree with your assessment. If you go to this girl's website, you'll see a video clip of her writing on her own, and no one is (visibly) giving her cues or supporting her arms. This is not Facilitated Communication. If it were, someone would actually be there, physically helping her type.

I am an education major and will be going for my masters in one year for special education...i frequently work with autistic and mentally retarded children. This video was beautiful and shows that we should never give up on these children. They are smart, funny, and important people who just need to find their own ways to communicate their wants and needs in their own time. A very touching and lovely story of hope.
