"Are we moving forward? Are we making progress?"
That's the problem. Everyone wants to grow more and more every year. The down side is : With growth comes increased consume...and with that, we depend on growth.
In the eyes of people... If we don't grow we fail. Lack of growth equals failure. That's sad...
We should maintain a decent level and work on increasing efficiency...not grow to overcome lose.
But that's just my way of thinking...

Ok, it was the worst environmental disaster in history. But these boneheads think the rest of us are SOOOoo stupid that they had to make this to drive the point home.
News flash! The rest of us got it on the first day!
Was this video from the department of redundancy department?

Did you know that

Only 8 of the 126 people working on the Deepwater Horizon were BP employees.

BP only held a 65% share in the well, Anadarko held 25%. Anadarko are a Texas based oil production company with 4000 employees.

The rig itself was owned and operated by an American firm, Transocean. They have been questioned with regards to possible understaffing. On the night of the disaster there were just 18 employees on the rig, lower than any other retained record. None of these were engineers, electricians, subsea supervisors or mechanics.

The failed 'blow out preventer' was made by another American firm - Cameron.

The cement work carried out which was supposed to 'seal' the well was carried out by yet another American firm, Halliburton - once run by Dick Cherney.

Before the Gulf of Mexico disaster, ExxonMobil was the worst oil-spiller in US history.

#13 You say "The rig itself was owned and operated by an American firm, Transocean."

I think the Swiss and their almost 30,000 employees are going to be surprised to find out THEY do not own Transocean , don't you?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transocean

Just hours before the blast, Quote:

"During Congressional testimony, Transocean and BP blamed each other for the disaster. It emerged that a "heated argument" had broken out on the platform 11 hours before the accident, in which Transocean personnel disagreed with BP personnel on an engineering decision related to the closing of the well."

A Japanese company, Mitsui owns a 10% share of the Deepwater Horizon rig.

Oh yea , Cheny sold his shares of Halliburton and stepped down as CEO in 2000 , ten years before the disaster.
