Public fill stations for something that recharges in HOURS? I mean, thats a cool car and all, but couldn't they have battery swap stations or something that is as fast as gas?

I salute the effort ... but These vehicules are not as protecting nature as they pretend, the huge lithium battery manifacturing makes a lots of polution, no wonder about when the battery is broken and needs to be replaced, it goes directly to the non biodegradable waste piles.
we need a safer energy source.

I wonder how long the battery lasts. Next thing you know you're stuck in the middle of nowhere.

#10 Refueling time is definitely an issue to be concerned with, which is why I generally favor doing something like using methanol to power conventional engines, with the methanol produced in a carbon-neutral fashion (such as running a fuel cell backwards with hydrogen and electricity provided by clean generation).
However, work is being done on battery charging speed. At least one researcher I've heard about has materials which allow charging fully in seconds. A full electric car battery might take a couple minutes.
But the fact is that a commuter could easily benefit from an electric car with this range, as the car won't need to be charged quickly, or even away from home. Granted, a Tesla Roadster is for a wealthy commuter. The company made a deliberate choice to start with a sports car, probably to attack the idea that an electric car has to be a tiny powerless roller skate. I think it does that rather effectively.

i think it may need a bit more work still to get from a rich boys (i do my bit for the eco system) toy.
what about the eco impact of making it, far higher than a normal car to be made and run for its life time. 4/10 must try harder, but a good test bed, dont use good for the eco system line. heading the right way may be?

Electric cars that rely on batteries will never be useful except as a limited commuter unless they come up with a way to charge quickly.
Battery swapping is not an option for several reasons...
1. all manufacturers would have to accept a standard battery pack, limiting design flexibility.
2. batteries are extremely heavy and dangerous to handle.
3. you may get someone else's piece of shit battery that they didn't take care of and holds very little charge.
You just have to work in a warehouse that uses electric forktrucks to see this.

Ridiculous we already have the hydrogen cell technology, no need to put batteries in a car as pwr source. And if you really want something in the middle first use methanol powered hydrogen cells first.

um electric cars were out years ago! with eletric car stations! and then General Motors took them all back and crushed the butters. There is only 1 left! and its in a museum
I haven't read the whole artical as I'm working on a Priority one right now but i think this is the same car.
