I believe that pilots are strongly discouraged not to have "engines out" in a case like this... There should be an article about it on www.avweb.com, but can't find it.

Despite my poor english, I think #11 you just made an unwanted double negation...did you mean pilots should NOT turn off engines in a situation like this?
Could you please clarify...and I am interested why, because normally you don't want to make a touch-and-go and when the engine is turned off, you prevent the propeller from turning into supersonic debris.
BTW, I think this person is a relative of Mr. Sullenberger!

#12: Engines should always be running when it is possible.
And if the blades will lick the asphalt, I don't think the engines will explodes in a "Hiroshima-like" blast. The blades will bend - I think that the manufacture-people has thought about that the landing gear can fail

a well executed landing, great job

Great job. Now they just need a medium sized crane to tow it away from the runway.

#14 in this case there was no turning back. There's no going around once the belly hits the asphalt. The pilot was committed... therefore it was a fantastic decision to shut down the engines. Why destroy the props and engines when they could be saved?

I bet the sound of the plane grinding on the ground for 20 seconds must have scared the crap out of the passengers in it
