elephants get very anxious about sudden movements or sounds that they cannot identify, If the sound cannot be located, this will signal danger to them, any sound or movement an elephant cannot locate will bring the same reaction- small cats, dogs, birds etc

#3 Me! :(|)

Wow very interesting Myth Buster... and #4 They tried the experiment again with JUST the dung moving.... I don't think elephants are used to having their shit flip over... and the elephant just ignored it..
It just shows how amazing their eyesight is and how fast they can pick up objects just by walking along... the only time they moved away is when they saw the mouse not because the poop flipped over.

Elephants are like humans. They are afraid of everything they don't know. ;)
Maybe the should have taken a local sort of mouse and not a white labmouse. A wild african elephant has surely never seen a white mouse before. It would have backed away from a Yorkshire Terrier as well.

The elephants are not displaying fear, they are simply avoiding stepping on another animal - nothing more. Elephants are extremely sure-footed animals with a high degree of situational awareness and careful where they step. That's all.

Elephants will avoid a King Cobra because a single bite can kill an elephant. That fact probably causes them to avoid all snakes, just in case.

What the Romans noticed was that elephants are scared of pigs squealing. So what they would do when their city being sieged by war elephants is dangle pigs from the wall to scare the siege elephants.

It's cool, but just testing it on 1 elephant doesn't mean every elephant reacts the same.
