When he starts the remote must be for turning on a projector that is in the ground at an angle suited for flat presentation on the glass surface. This glass can have a transparent touch sensitive surface/material on top that is connected to the computer which interprets the interaction ( cool fact, it seems multi-touch aware ).
no scifi here, but very cool use of money and time.

#2 not necessarily touch sensitive, he can also be using infrared LEDs in the frame of the glass and webcam to track the motion (i've seen some diy like that on the net). The glass also seem to have a somewhat more matte portion (in the beginning, the outer part of the glass is clear while the inner is more mate), which indeed strengthens the projector theory.
The not-getting-into-stores part is pure economics. They're too greedy. Once it can be produced it can also be mass-produced, and cheaper. But why do that when they can still milk the current-generation-technology cash cow?

Ok after looking at his site i have found a MASSIVE fault with this , he is selling this as just a peice of glass with a touch panel(no lcd no plasma no projector) on it and software thats also for sale for only $50 , i can buy a 32inch dual touch panel for 200 euros fit it on some $10 plexiglass a $200 projector with 800x600 its enough at 2ft away and then to take the piss even more you dont need his software to control it as if you have a dual touch panel and the right drivers .....
